My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fancy seems like a silly name for this precious girl, but she was named by a 6 year old girl and we just couldn’t bear to change it. Fancy is a gorgeous mix of two wonderful breeds, Beagle and Basset Hound. Her body is long and short and she has the silkiest black and chestnut coat. She’s currently 33 pounds and her vet estimates that she may fill out a bit more and add about 3-5 more pounds. She’s just 1 year old and silly as they come. She’s an active girl, but also loves to be affectionate and relax with her friends and her toys in her new dog bed.

She’s a smart young lady and this is how she landed in a foster home after what we think was an escape from a back yard New Year’s Eve out of fear of fireworks. She spotted a man walking with his 4 dogs and his toddler in a stroller and decided that his hands and home weren’t quite full enough, so she wanted to latch on to that pack. She ended up following this guy, now her foster Dad, for over a mile without a leash. He looked for Lost Dog signs and posted her on Facebook, scanned her for a microchip at the vet’s office and much more, but had no success in locating her family. In the meantime, it was determined that she needed to be vetted and properly cared for in order to find her a new family if her last one wasn’t found.

We are assuming that she did have a family and was just lost because she is so incredibly sweet, gets along with absolutely everyone, men, women, toddlers, big dogs and small dogs. Her foster family does not have a cat, so she’s not been tested with one yet. She is very playful and would do very well with an active family and with a playful doggy companion. She wants to initiate play time constantly and one of the senior pups in the house doesn’t really appreciate that. She’d really need a companion that has the same level of goofiness and action and is her size or larger. She currently lives with 4 dogs and a 20 month old human and she loves all of them so far.

She is still a young, clumsy puppy and is learning how to be an inside pup. We’ve also assumed that she was a backyard dog in her last family because she is just now learning potty training and crate training, but is doing extremely well considering she’s only been with her foster since New Year’s Day. She truly enjoys a peanut butter stuffed Kong toy in her kennel at night. She is learning new things on a daily basis and it will take her a little bit of time to get accustomed to the “scary stuff” like the vacuum, the broom and lawnmowers in the neighbor’s yards. She’s still a little skittish with these new things that she’s never probably seen before, but she’s catching on very quickly.

She loves to play with toys, the plush ones and balls are her favorite. She doesn’t mind the rainy or cold weather and just seems to be carefree at this point. She did very well during her first 2 baths and almost seems to enjoy them. She’ll be an excellent walking or hiking partner. Her foster dad took her on a run and he returned saying that she has the endurance, but needs some serious training before her first 5K competition.

Fancy has been spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated and loved on an incredible amount since she latched on to her foster. They love her, but truly do have a full house and would like to continue helping other dogs in the future. She would be an amazing addition to any family dynamic. She’s very adaptable, silly, cute and tons of fun. She will need daily walks, runs or hikes to stay happy and healthy.

Fancy’s adoption fee is $400, which covers her airline flight, travel kennel, comfy bed for travel and required health documents issued by her vet.
