My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Westie/Jack Russell mix is a perfect combo for those with who are searching for an extremely smart and loyal family dog. Iggy has the intelligence of the Jack and the slightly less energetic, snuggly nature of the Westie. Of utmost importance...this mix is famous for their great temperaments and extremely loving and devoted ways. They're also known to be trustworthy and very gentle with family members and other family pets. We believe that Iggy was loved and in a great home at one time in his life. He doesn't appear to have any issues, is friendly to all and even knows commands and tricks. So sad that he sat unclaimed and pending euthanasia in a very high-kill Kansas shelter. Farfel's is very excited for the opportunity to place Iggy in his forever home!
Iggy is one of those even-tempered guys who enjoys other dogs, cats and children (we would like kids 10+ - no tail pulling or awkward carrying please). Since all dogs require a certain amount of exercise and many (like Iggy) absolutely love being with their people...if a hike is the order of the day - count him in! These type of dogs are known to run joyfully and energetically through the Colorado mountains...and then crash on the couch snuggling close to their favorite humans and canines.
Iggy appears to be a non-shedding (or very lightly shedding) pup and will therefore require periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy. As he loses the old hair of his shelter days, Iggy's coat will grow in soft, beautiful and less likely to shed.
Iggy's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...he makes close playmates everywhere he goes. He is outgoing and social and that means everyone he meets ultimately becomes a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Iggy's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through his entire body ending up in a smile. And if your lap is available, up Iggy goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of his devotion. Iggy is such a wonderful being...we think he represents the best qualities of the Terrier breeds. At about 2 years old and 18 or so lbs, he seems to have completely left behind the neglect and lack of love that made up his early life. Iggy has become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he shines with his accomplishments.
We would like to see Iggy in a home that includes him in family time and activities...he's very friendly and would thrive in a family that truly loves him and considers him a very important family member. Iggy would be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup that is appropriate to take just about anywhere. Iggy would also enjoy a family who loves including their dog in their active lives. Another gentle and fun canine sibling would be a great companion for the very personable Iggy.
We're hoping that Iggy will arrive in CO having already been neutered. If this isn't the case, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs (at one of our vets) for his neuter, microchip and any vaccinations that weren't considered mandatory in Kansas.
Iggy will be arriving on transport in Denver on Wed 1/14/2015. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this sweet and endearing companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or mail a hard copy to Farfel's Farm 906 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302.
