My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I'm Allie. I am a 31 pound 4-½ year-old petite red merle BC with a blue and amber eye. I want to forge a bond with my person. I am somewhat of Velcro dog and I would like nothing better than to hang around with you. I do not have high energy and I definitely am couch potato material.

The human who raised me from an 8-week-old puppy passed away last summer. I was not socialized with people or other dogs. Since I have been in my foster home, my confidence in meeting new people and other dogs has improved dramatically. I can still sometimes be standoffish and reactive with people I don't know. Once I get to know a person, just try to keep me away from being in their laps. At the dog park, I am quite sociable dog and introduce myself to every human. So while I still have mild fear aggression with some strangers, I am making great progress.

Commands I know are: sit, stop, off, wait, shake and stop. I'm still learning come, down and leave it. I walk well on lead, love to ride in the car and know how to retrieve a tennis ball. I could be good at fly ball, agility and Frisbee if any of those sports interest you.

I'm a dominant female so need to be the only dog in your house because I will resource guard my people, my food and my toys with other dogs. HOWEVER, I have no resource guarding with my human's for food or toys.

I can occasionally be left alone for 6-8 hours, but would really prefer to live where someone worked from home part time because I get lonely when left alone for long periods of time.

I am not a finicky eater; in fact, the treats I love are: raw and dried apples, fresh or frozen bananas, dried cranberries, raw cucumber, frozen green beans, butternut squash, sweet potato and sliced Brussels sprouts.

I'm quite content to entertain myself with squeaky toys (I do not destroy them.) My house manners are excellent; I go in my crate willingly and will stay off your furniture (if that is what you want). I don't bark inappropriately, but will let you know someone is at the door or trying to get into my yard.

I am looking for a herding breed dog savvy family who know how to correct behavior with positive reinforcement, not with traditional based discipline methods. Like many BCs, I'll test your leadership, but I respond to fair, calm, gentle and consistent leadership - no need to raise your voice at me. I would love a person who worked from home part time and have no cats, young children or other dogs. I will forge a close bond with you, but I need a person who will help continue my socialization skills so I can continue to be a good canine citizen.
