My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Smokey is a very loving, gentle and affectionate boy. He loves everyone and would be a good choice for a family with children. He has no problem being touched and poked or climbed on. The more hands he has on him the better. He just loves the attention and affection from anyone. He is great with other pets in the sense that he gives them no mind and couldn't care what they are doing even when they are growling at him. He just minds his business and goes back to looking for someone to love. Smokey is approximately 4 - 5 years old and currently weighs 58 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

Smokey has not been with us for very long but already he has proved to be a very lovable, cuddly, playful and easy going kind of guy. If you are looking for a dog that wants to be with you all the time and doing whatever you are doing, then Smokey is your guy. He would make a perfect family pet as the more attention he gets from anyone, the more he enjoys it. We are sure he would be fine even with very young children and their noise and quick movements would never phase him. We have a little Shih Tzu in the home that will growl at him and he just ignores him as well. We also have a rabbit in the home and other than a sniff and a nose poke now and then, he completely ignores the rabbit as well so we are sure cats wouldn't be a problem either. He is just a big cuddle bug that wants nothing more than to love and be loved by people.

We are not sure what Smokey is mixed with but he appears to have more of a wiry coat which is easy to care for and dries quickly. He also sheds very little so we assume there is some kind of Schnauzer or other wire haired type of dog in his background. He loves being brushed and fussed over and even being poked and pulled, he acts like he is getting a nice massage! He appears to be a little on the thin side but he is a very good eater and we are sure with a good diet he will gain the extra weight if needed. Smokey loves to go for walks and really enjoys romping around in the backyard. He would love it even more if there were children that would want to come out and play with him. Although he is active outside, he is very calm and relaxed in the home.

Smokey is the perfect family dog. He is very down to earth and thinks he is a lap dog. As long as all hands are on him he is happy! He is very loyal to the family and is a great sleeping buddy. He always has the look of love in his eyes. He is a big cuddle bug. He is friendly and up for anything you would like to do. He even enjoys going for rides in the car. He doesn't appear to have any fears and is just the coolest guy around.

Smokey is totally house trained and has never had a accident in the home. He is very good about letting you know when he needs to go out and is fine being left in the home on his own with no worries. We have been crating Smokey at night but he doesn't like it and in all honesty he is not a dog that needs to be crated. We have left him alone in the home when we went out and there was no issues. When we arrive home he is there waiting at the door, happy as can be to see you. He gives the same welcome greeting to anyone that comes through the door, stranger or not. He really is just a people loving dog.

Although he seems to have been well socialized in his previous life, it didn't appear that anyone took the time to really teach him any commands. In the first day he was here however we taught him to sit. He is a smart dog and being so people oriented, he listens well and is eager to please. His is basically very well behaved in the home but is still needing to learn some manners such as not stealing your food when you leave the room. Other than that however, he doesn't get into anything he shouldn't and doesn't chew on anything other than the toys and treats we give him. He was not trained to walk on a leash but because he always wants to be with you, leash training is coming along nicely. We think you could teach Smokey anything as he is so attentive and wanting to do whatever you ask of him.

Smokey is going to make his new family very happy. He is just an easy going dog that fits in well with any situation. He is never looking for trouble and totally ignores any trouble that finds him. As long as he is confident in the love of his people, he is a very happy boy. He deserves a loving family that will give him back as much as he gives to them.

If you would like to make this big cuddle bug a part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
