Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ritzy was found wondering a yard in Galia county and taken into the local kill shelter. As she sat in her cage..some dear friend saw her on Petfinder and sent out an SOS. She was in such bad condition!!! Poor thing..how can we not take her in? Ritzy looked like road kill. Her skin was literally crusty all over. She was severely matted. Her eyes were full of goop. She was a walking skeleton. I watched her breath thinking she would be dead by the time the transport was over. But her will to live didnâÂÂt allow thatâ¦. She had a rough road ahead of her. Having a very low functioning thyroid, she slept most of the day and was only awake for 10 minutes! Her skin was so rough, her eyes were sore, her ears for so infected they were literally swollen closed, she couldnâÂÂt even poop without having pumpkin added to her food. But she hung in there and started to show signs of improvement! Today, Ritzy is a sweet, happy, lazy (she still enjoys sleeping), Maltese (YES, we can FINALLY see she is a Maltese). She is about 4 Years Old, Gets two shots of insulin a day and Gets ½ thyroid pill, twice a day. -Is good with other dogs (she doesnâÂÂt even care if they bump into her) -She IS blind but can see light. She learns her way around the house very well. -She enjoys her foster mommy and just wants a loving home!! RitzyâÂÂs medical challenges: Diabetes Hypothyroidism Stage 5 Heart Murmor (no meds needed) She is blind (fully matured cataracts) She is partially deaf Update 11/8/11 - Ritzy is a 'normal' , happy girl. She is learning how to play with other dogs..likes to sleep in the dog huddle and knows every inch of the house (even when we move stuff ..she learns how to get around it). She bases a lot on hearing and really is a great dog. She is quiet (only barks when the whole house gets to barking...despite the fact she has no idea why she is barking). She is crate trained and housetrained (she will have an accident every now and then but not often at all!!). She gets excited when you get home and likes is quite the shadow. Now she just needs a home that wants a snuggly, quiet companion. By the way, her insulin is well regulated. She gets less than 1 cc per shot..so the Humulin bottle lasts about 6-7 months (averages about $10/month). Hey thyroid is also regulated with the pills so she is down to regular annual doctors visits or a glulcose check every six months or so. She is spayed and doing great!!!!
