My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HACHIKO is a 10 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 52 pounds. Hachiko came from a sad situation, since he spent his life in an outdoor pen. He was recently rescued by a good samaritan and is on his way to bigger and better things with Lab Rescue and the forever family he deserves! He is very laid back and affectionate. Hachiko is good with other dogs. Hachiko did ok with the cat in his previous home, so he is good with cats. Hachiko was a bit timid at first but came around with treats. Poor guy has not been well cared for. Will need a home with a fenced yard. Hachiko is approved for kids 10+

Update (8/8): Hachiko is an older gentleman looking for a home for his golden years. He's quiet and gentle - does well with small and large dogs, cats and even house rabbits. Hachiko likes to hang out in the backyard and putter around rather than go for walks, though he loves car rides. He's had a very rough life and can be timid in strange surroundings. He has excellent house manners. He's low key and sweet as can be - easy to love. He's fond of ear rubs, belly scratches and, of course, naps

Update (6/26): Fosters favorite things about Hachiko:
- Watching him gain more and more confidence
- His hilarious attempts to catch tennis balls (eyes closed, mouth wide open, nowhere near the ball! :) )
- He's always glad to see people and meet them
- He's everybody's favorite grandpa, in dog form!

Update (5/9): Hachiko is a very very sweet dog. He gets along fine with other dogs and is very submissive to my cat. He doesn't bother my house rabbits and didn't even seem very interested in sniffing them. He can do stairs but only if not too steep, and he needs to go slow, sometimes needing help getting back up. He was very anxious for the first couple of days- very confusing for him but now he is settling in nicely. He is timid on walks- the big wide world is still a mystery to him so I'm working on helping him gain confidence. We're doing short walks in quiet surroundings to get used to just being out in wide open, unfamiliar spaces. He's a slow eater- eats some, comes back later to finish. He likes car rides and hanging out in the back yard as long as someone is out there with him. He went to Dogma for a bath today and did well. He wasn't too frightened and there were lots of interesting smells and other dogs to sniff.

Update (2/26): Hachiko has settled in, has become one of the pack in his foster home and seems to be enjoying himself there. He has moved out of the bathroom and onto his own bed. He is eating regularly 3x a day and gaining weight nicely but still has some to go. His stability when walking is constantly improving and is a long way from where he was. He can be unstable on his feet at times. Because of this, a home without a large amount of stairs would be best. He gets along with all of the dogs in his foster home and has no issues with any of them. Today he attempted to chase the cat but because he isn't very fast, he was not able to catch him. His foster believes that a home with cats may be fine as long as the cat is young and agile enough. He eagerly runs outside to do his business. A home where someone is not gone all day long would be best for Hachiko. He likes treats and continues to work to leave his previous life behind him. He is wagging his tail more and he seems generally happy to see his foster family. A home with another older dog might be helpful to help Hachiko with his confidence.

Update (2/17): Hachiko is a great dog who has lots of love to give. He has adjusted nicely to life indoors and is always following his foster family around looking for scratches and pets.

Update (2/03): Hachiko is starting to show his personality! He is getting more comfortable and confident in his foster home. He is asking to go to outside when he needs to instead of just waiting to be let outside. Most importantly, he is showing his true labby appetite and love of food! This is a great improvement from his previous picky eating. Good boy Hachiko!

Update (01/30): This handsome fellow would like to say hello! He has improved so much! He is no longer hiding and doing much better overall, being less concerned about being left behind every day. He is getting the hang of the routine and has settled in very nicely. His favorite thing is being petted for hours. He discovered the comfort of the sofa and decided he is a lap dog - who am I to disagree! Very cute pup!

Update (01/26): The old gentleman has settled in and is no longer hiding in the bathroom. He still sleeps there at night but he is much more confident, walks around, comes trotting over with a waggling tail to demand to be petted. It is really heartwarming to see how far he has come. He is eating better, not like the resident dogs but a bit more than once a day. He always has access to food. He is a love, very affectionate and enjoys to follow you around. His biggest concern is to make sure that he will not be left outside, he rushes inside as soon as the door opens, but that will probably get better over time as he realizes that he can trust us - or whomever he will end up with.
