My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MOSELLE is a 10 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 88 pounds. and should lose 10/15 pounds. He is the perfect house guest. He met my dogs (yellow female Lab and male Schnauzer) without any problems. Jack the Cat also said hello. At first it seemed Moselle didn't know what he was and actually backed up! Jack the Cat can freely walk in Moe's path and sometimes Moe will whimper a little, but for the most part he just ignores him. During the work day Moe has been gated, not crated, and has proven himself to be housetrained. He is usually sleeping on the large dog bed. He seems a little unsure of the long hallway (hardwood floors) and won't explore the back of the house. I tried to cajole him to follow me into the back of the house with chicken...no dice. Moselle is nobody's fool and doesn't fall for any tricks. At mealtime, he waits patiently for his bowl....in the other room. He won't come into the kitchen yet, so he eats in the living room. Moselle will sit before eating and doesn't rush through his meal. Moselle is a dream on the leash. He will pull to smell something really interesting, but loves to go for a jaunt around the block. He looks very proud when he is walking. He's a little big right now for a harness and just uses a leash and Martingale collar. Moe can be independent - sometimes he chooses to sleep on his dog bed instead of hanging out in the living room during tv time. Every night before bed I get down on the floor with him at his bedside and rub his ears and face. When I stop he inches the tiniest bit closer to me, rubs his own face with his paws and I repeat. While we do this, I tell him he is safe and loved. I believe he understands what I am saying because he sleeps soundly all through the night. Moselle has been through his fair share of woes in his life. He is very deserving of a super comfy dog bed and a patient human to love him. He needs a place of his own - a place to call home. Moselle was with the HOPE program and lived and was trained in a prison for several months. He was originally a Hurricane Katrina survivor. We felt we could find him a home. Moselle is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (4/23): Moselle continues to be the best boy. He's very comfortable visiting other dogs and staying with them. It seems that all the dogs that meet Mo - like him! He can play with the younger ones for a little while and pal around with the older dogs. He hasn't been on a scale recently but I think he's lost some weight. Moselle has a favorite dog bed and stretches out on it every night at bedtime. He loves his leashed walks, but we've been staying at a house with a fenced yard. He absolutely loves checking the perimeter and then laying down. He watches the comings and goings of the birds and squirrels. Sometimes he takes a an antler outside to chew. Mo wins everyone's heart!

Update (3/20): Moselle is competing for the award of BEST FOSTER DOG EVER. He's conquering his fear of the kitchen tile and the long scary hallway. He may be a senior, but he loved playing in the snow. The last storm we had, he raced all over the backyard. Sometimes when I come home from work, he romps around the living room and grabbing toys! Toys! He went on an over night visit with me to a friend's house with 4 dogs, and he was good with all of them. Moselle especially loved playing with the young female. At the last AALD, Moselle turned on the charm. Lots of people stopped by to see him, and he dazzled them with his cute ears and white toes. If that wasn't enough, he threw in a Lab lean to show off his personality. Moselle's perfect home is quiet, and has someone that will love him and treat him right. He would prefer few to no stairs, and he would gladly live with another dog and/or cat. Moselle is just a sweet, sweet boy that wants to be loved.

Update (01/21): Moselle has been in his foster home about two weeks, and he has made great progress. He is not crated or gated during the day anymore. He has proven himself to be very trustworthy. His foster bought him a small rug to help him walk in the dining room on the hard wood floors. He mastered that without any problems. There is another one in the long hallway and more success there. His foster played a little game with him and praised him to get him used to walking with the carpet. Then he would trot off to the living room and repeat the game. He loved it - he was very silly.. He loves to go for walks and his bum leg doesn't really slow him down. He still sleeps on the dog bed next to his foster at night. In the morning he will poke his wet nose up on the bed to see if His foster is ready to get up. He is happy to get up or sleep in at his fosters whim.
