My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Toby and I am 5 years of age … or maybe 6 years (my family that surrendered me to CAA Rescue cannot remember how old I am)!!! I was a very hairy and dirty little mess and if you ask CAA Rescue they can send you some of my initial pictures… now I am all cleaned up and look very handsome. I also feel a thousand times better!

My previous family crated me a lot – all day while they were away and all night while they slept so I have a few minor issues just due to my lack of socialization.
While I won’t ask for the door to do my business while I am outside I will go and I can seriously hold my bathroom breaks all day. I guess that comes from being in my crate all day … if I went while I was in there I would have had to sit in all day and I guess I did not like that so I learned how to hold it for a longggggg time! I am a perfect little gentleman on walks so if you like to take walks with me I am sure there will be no issue with the house training.
Because I spent all that time alone I am a little nervous around new people and can be a little nippy… that is because I am not used to being loved and cuddled. My foster mummy is spending so much time with me to show me that life with a family can be a good thing and she is rewarding my good behavior and setting me up for success!! I am really changing a lot and fast
I am not a super yappy dog but do bark when the door bell rings or new people come into the home… nothing major though.
Even though my previous family crated me every chance they could my foster family is the exact opposite. They never crate me!!! I am really liking that and even though I have been left alone I caused no destruction in the home and I sleep quietly on the floor where my foster mummy lay out my beds. I am quite happy with this new set up and think it is pretty darn awesome!
Someone obviously spent a tremendous amount of time teasing me because I currently guard my food and my bones. If you try to take those away from me I might nip you. Foster mama says she is not scared of me and she is teaching me that she can take these things away from and give them back to me. I am not liking her new “keep away” game very much but I hate to disappoint her so I try very hard not to be nippy but right now it would be best if I am with older children or ideally none at all. Older children should be mindful and respectful – to understand that I was not treated very well and that I lack the social graces that a good canine citizen should have. I think though with continued positive reinforcement training that I can really learn a lot!
I am dog social but not with hyper dogs, I am pretty chill and like to be around other dogs that are like me. I do live with cats in foster care and I pretty much ignore them but sometimes the kitten picks on me and bullies me around so I will give that mean kitty a bark and when he runs I will chase. I think this is all a plot by the kitten to get me in trouble with my foster mama!
I love attention, again something I am not used to, so I will be super submissive. I am super quiet tip toeing around foster mama during the day and she says that I am so quiet she sometimes forgets I am there! I have also recently discovered my lovvvvve of cuddles. If you are looking forward to the weekend where we can have a TV show series marathon to watch I am your doggie! I will be more than happy to snuggle up on the couch with you under the blankies

I am a good boy but I am not perfect – but who is really? I think my best quality is that I am open to change and learning new things and my worst quality is believing I am the resident vacuum cleaner waiting for you to drop scraps of food on the floor … again NOT MY FAULT! That is the way I was fed for the last 5 or 6 years
If you are reading this and feeling sad for me – please don’t as I am quite happy now with my foster family. They really ROCK! They have been taking great care of me and have been showing me new things and taking me out with them in the car – I absolutely love the car and all my little adventures!
Please email CAARescue@gmail.com … while I really like my foster family it is time I find my true forever family!
