My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We call this handsome fella Stallone because he’s a tough guy. He’s also incredibly sweet and affectionate, but you’ll understand and agree with his name shortly. Stallone is about 1 ½ years old and 44 pounds of adorable Shepherd. His ears are the most expressive ones we’ve ever seen and they add so much character to this guy. His eyes are so soulful and longing for his own people. He’s been so appreciative for the positive change in his life since his rescue.

His sweet boy was found outside of a boarding facility and the staff was feeding him for a few days until they could find a plan of action to get him rescued. He was in good physical condition when he showed up and a healthy weight, so the staff assumed that his previous owner had abandoned him there with the thought that the facility would just take him in. Unfortunately, businesses can’t just take in strays like a shelter can because they don’t have the space or the funds to do so. The staff contacted us about taking him into our program and we agreed. That day, they brought him into the facility, it was clear he had sustained an injury in the short few days that he was waiting.

Stallone joined our program and we took him immediately to the vet to evaluate his injury. The vet told us that it was a stab wound through the muscle on his shoulder. Fortunately for him, it was just a tissue wound and nothing too serious although we know it was very painful and uncomfortable for him. The vet cleaned him all up, stapled the wound closed and sent him with pain medication and antibiotics. We monitored him closely during his recovery and he was a champ and a tough guy, hence his name…Stallone! The vet took his staples out 10 days later and said there will not be any lasting issues, other than a tough guy scar.

During the few days before he was rescued, he was a bit skittish around people, so everyone worked to gain his trust. He is still a bit cautious when meeting new people, but he has warmed up to the staff and rescue volunteers quickly and feels completely comfortable with them once he knows and trusts them. He will be a great family dog and will be so loyal to his bonded companions.

He loves to play with the other dogs that he is currently living with at the facility and seems to be doing well with the cats too. Now that he is completely healed from his stab wound and his neuter that followed, we have started introducing him to other dogs boarding at the facility and he has been neutral and friendly with everyone thus far too. He’s just a nice guy all around!

He is well mannered while in his kennel, so we can check off kennel trained. He’s not had any accidents at all, so we can check that box too. Stallone has been neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and he’s ready to warm up to his new best friends. He is loyal, sweet, cute and fun. He is ready to get settled into his new family, so please consider adopting our very nice, tough guy.

Stallone’s adoption fee is $150 in the Houston area. Stallone can also travel out of state to a new family. His adoption fee if travel is required is $450, which covers the airline flight, the travel kennel, a comfy bed and his required health certificate.
