Once in awhile a dog is surrendered for truly unfortunate circumstances and it breaks everyone's heart: the family, the shelter director's and the dog's. That is Riley's story. Riley's first owner was an older man who loved her so deeply, and she adored him. They were constant companions and wherever he went, Riley was right by his side. Sadly, her owner passed away, but he had provided that she be left with a friend. The friend followed through with his commitment to the owner and Riley but after over a year, it hasn't worked out the way anyone had hoped. Riley is a naturally very happy girl who loves the outdoors and is very much a "people person". But in this new environment, there is a resident "Queen" who is an oppressive, dominating ruler -- an older, crotchety Jack Russell Terrier who does everything in her power to make Riley's life miserable. And it's working. Riley is her happy-go-lucky self when she is outside where there is room for everyone, playing in the yard, basking in the sun, or even on going on rides in the car by herself with her new dad. But when she is inside the home, the alpha female makes Riley feel so unwelcome, all Riley does is sit in the corner on a dog bed and try to make herself as "invisible" as possible. So they have all come to the conclusion that finding a new home for Riley will be better for everyone -- a home who will appreciate the loyalty and devotion that Riley wants to give to someone. Riley is very loving and gets along well with the other dogs and foster puppies at her current home. She's been great with visiting children but she hasn't lived with any full time. Riley is about 5 - 7 years old, she weighs a slightly chunky 42 pounds and she is a very healthy girl. We are hoping someone will take this girl into their hearts because we know she will be eternally grateful. If you can make Riley believe in forever again, please visit www.pinkshelter.com for more information about the adoption process or click here for our online application. Full vetting included in her $300 adoption fee. Riley is in Arkansas and transport fee is additional $150. IF YOU HAVE AOL or YAHOO PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FILE FOR OUR RESPONSE.
