PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST BEFORE RESPONDING. Roscoe, a 6 year old, 23 lb. Lhasa Apso mix came to The Nest from a local animal shelter where he was surrendered by his owner because she could no longer afford his care. Roscoe was very scared at the shelter and did not "show well". After a few months of being in the shelter's care and no luck finding a suitable home for him, Roscoe was put on the euthanasia list. A concerned volunteer at the shelter contacted us and told us about Roscoe and we decided to give him a chance. We have no idea what happened in his life prior to coming to the nest but something did happen to him and it causes him to be TERRIFIED of grooming and even just being brushed. His way to react is to bite when one tried to do any of the two. As long as one defers from trying to groom him or looking in his ears, Roscoe is truly one of the sweetest and most affectionate dogs. At the nest we have learned to respected his boundaries and for grooming we take him to our vet office where he has to be fully sedated and shaved twice at least a year. It is really unfortunate that Roscoe has been traumatized like this as he is otherwise a great dog: he gets along well with other dogs (he tends to be intimidated by larger dogs), he is fine with cats, he is very friendly with people, he is house broken, crate trained and he knows "sit". He is just a very good dog, easy going and he likes to have fun. He is always a bit skeptical about a new environment (and sometimes new people) at first and may show signs of separation anxiety at first. But once he makes himself at home, he is great. Roscoe loves to be with his person - he gets very attached. For Roscoe we are looking for a home with a securely fenced in yard and people who can understand his needs and will be able to see to his special needs. Roscoe is neutered, current on vaccinations including Rabies, he has tested negative for heartworm and is on heartworm and flea prevention. He also had a dental. If you are interested in giving this special pup a loving home please fill out an adoption application on our website: http://inthenest.net/applications/adoption-application
Roscoe's adoption fee is $150. No children under 16 please. Please let us know if you have any questions.

About The Nest

About Our Rescue Group...

The Nest,is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization. Our mission is to rescue, restore, and re-home animals that come from local animal shelters or from individuals who contact us directly.

We are guided by the following ideals:

We will always place the physical and mental well-being of our animals above our own and that of other individuals, making a constant effort to act as an advocate for the animals we serve.

We will to the best of our ability assist in the care and placement of animals that require our assistance, regardless of breed, age, demeanor, physical or behavioral health, because we believe that all animals at any stage in life and health have inherent value and an important place in the world in which we all live.

We will provide educational support for those individuals who seek our assistance, believing that educating the public is one of the keys to keeping animals in their homes and preventing senseless euthanasia.

We will provide ongoing care and homes for animals we cannot place in adoptive homes, because we believe that animals that make their way to The Nest should be cared for until their last days.
