My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to Sammy. She is a stunning 10-12 month old German Shepherd/ Husky mix. Sammy is everything you are looking for in a larger dog but in a smaller package. Sammy is medium sized at 40lbs with black, white and tan coloring. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. She is a beautiful dog with an even more wonderful temperament and personality once she gets to know you.

Sammy is a dog who loves to play, just snuggle with you on the couch, or grab a toy and amuse herself. Sammy was a stray at an animal control facility and was not claimed by her owner. How her previous owner didn't come for her is beyond comprehension. Sammy deserves a family who is as devoted to her as she will be to them. She needs to belong in a home where she will not be allowed to roam free and get lost, and where she can be confident in that fact that she is home forever and will never be lost or abandoned again. Sammy would do well in a home with a consistent routine. She is very nervous with meeting new people but once she trusts you, you will have a friend for life. Even through this, she has never shown any aggression. She does need reassurance that everything is ok; this is likely the result of past experiences. Through time and patience we are sure that she will become more confident. Sammy loves playing fetch and going for car rides. She is great in the car. She would be a fantastic travel companion.

Sammy enjoys all forms of exercise offered her and she requires daily walking and activity. She is full of energy and does well with regular walks and playing in the yard no matter what the weather. Sammy requires a fully fenced in back yard so that she can run around and play in safety. Sammy has been taken on walks about town .She loves it and is sometimes over excited so we have been using a Gentle Leader training halter with a regular leash or an extend-a-leash. Sammy is also happy when she is snuggling and getting belly rubs.

Sammy is house broken and will sit by the door when she needs to go out. Sammy is also crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night and when alone in the house. She does try to sneak upstairs and jump into bed with anyone who may still be there, person or animal. She has been an easy dog to foster and an even easier dog to love. We are still in disbelief that such a beautiful and lovable dog was allowed to become an unclaimed stray. Sammy is good with other dogs and has settled in nicely with her foster dog sister. She loves to play with her and looks to her older sister for guidance. She would do well in a home with another friendly, well behaved dog as a playmate, but this is not a necessity for her. Sammy would do just as well being the only dog and getting all the attention to herself. Should this be the case she will need regular interactions with other dogs to play with and socialize with as she really does like the company of other dogs. Sammy is also good with her three foster cats. She learned very quickly to approach slowly. Sammy is not being fostered in a home with children and we believe that with her loving nature, she would do fine with older children (over 10yrs). Sammy is a dog that loves to play and loves to play fetch. Sammy is being taught basic obedience in her foster home and knows "sit" and “lie down” and “time for bed”. She is VERY smart and picks up on new skills and commands quickly so she will benefit greatly from attending obedience school.

Sammy's new family should commit to continuing her obedience training to bring out the best in this very smart dog. She also needs the socialization that comes from attending obedience school with other dogs and people. In the end you will have a fantastic family dog that has all the love in the world to give. Sammy’s rough start has not held her back from loving life and being a happy, affectionate girl. She is looking for a forever home to share her life with. Sammy needs a family that understands that she is shy initially and will give her the time to settle in and get to know her new people. She very quickly came to trust her whole foster family in the first day so it doesn’t take long with her once she realizes she is safe and cared for. She will be a most amazing dog for a caring family that is looking for a very sweet and affectionate and playful dog to be their lifelong companion.

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and microchipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.
