My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Roscoe is a typical, spunky, intelligent, playful and affectionate Terrier. He thinks he is a much bigger dog and is very loyal to his family. He takes a few minutes to warm up to strangers however he is friendly with everyone. He loves the outdoors all most as much as he loves sitting in your lap. He loves going for walks, playing with other dogs and mostly just being with his people. He is not a fan of cats and cannot go to a home where there are cats. Another dog friend or children that would enjoy playing with him would be great. Roscoe is approximately 1 1/2 to 2 years old and currently weighs 21 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

Roscoe is a very playful and energetic dog who loves getting attention from his people. He enjoys playing with other dogs and he is pretty funny when he starts to initiate play. Roscoe also enjoys chewing on an elk antler, and finding a pine-cone or stick in the backyard to throw around and try to catch to amuse himself. I do think his most favorite thing is getting snuggles and being with his people. Roscoe is a high energy dog that would definitely need a good long walk each day and would need a backyard that he could run around in and burn off some energy. I think he would also make a good jogging partner. Roscoe seems to be low shedding.

Roscoe is friendly with everyone including children. He is nervous at first and will bark at new people coming into the home but once he has a chance to sniff you he is fine. Roscoe has shown shyness towards men and takes a little bit more time for him to approach a man than he does a woman. He has also shown fear and shyness towards my brother who is mentally disabled. Roscoe will sometimes bark at him while backing away. I'm not sure what triggers it because it doesn't happen all the time. At times he does allow my brother to pet him then 2 seconds later he runs away and turns and barks at him. So for this reason I wouldn't recommend him to go to a family if someone has a disability. He has not however shown any signs of aggression. Roscoe has been really good when meeting other dogs. He does not like cats and would hurt one if given the chance.

Roscoe has been left alone for about 6 hours with no issues. When left alone and at night he gets gated off in my dinning room area with his antler and a dog bed. Roscoe's favorite thing to do is get love and attention from his people, and loves to snuggle up on the couch with you. At times he can be a bit to pushy for attention and needs to be told to lay beside you instead of trying to be on you. He is getting better at this and learning he will get attention without being pushy. He loves tossing around his toys to try and catch them, but even more he loves his antler and any type of rawhide type chews. He doesn't appear to have any fears other than of my brother. Roscoe is your typical terrier in the barking department. He will bark if someone knocks on your door or if he see's them on the property before they get to the door. He does make a good watchdog as most terriers do. Once you let him know it is okay then he will stop barking.

Roscoe has pretty good manners and doesn't beg when your eating, he may seem interested for a minute but will wander off somewhere and lies down. He has never chewed anything that he shouldn't. He does know some of his basic commands such as sit, lay-down, drop it, and come and we are currently working on stay. He is fully house trained and will go to our backdoor when he wants to go out. I do not use a crate with Roscoe, instead I have him gated off in our dinning room area when we are out and he sleeps here as well. We haven't had any issues when leaving him alone he just lays down and goes to sleep. Roscoe does need someone who is willing to work on his leash training as he does pull on the leash. He does need to be watched around the door more so when your leaving because he wants to go with you. He is great in the car, he'll just look out the window or lay-down and relax, and he never tries to come up front with you. He is very easy to travel with.

I would like to see Roscoe go to someone or to a family that is willing to be his leader and give him the rules and boundaries to help him know what is expected of him. He does well when he is given direction. I also think he would do well with some obedience classes to help keep him mentally stimulated. I think he would do very well with obedience classes because he is very smart and eager to please. Roscoe would love a home with a backyard to run around in. He would also enjoy having another playful dog to play with, but it's not a must as long as he gets the occasional doggy play date I think he would be happy. Roscoe would be fine with a family with kids about 8 and older (so they could handle any pushiness). Or he would be great for an active couple or an active single person. He wouldn't suit apartment living due to his protective barking and the fact that he needs a yard to run in. He would also need to be in a cat free home.

If you think Roscoe would be a good choice for your situation, please submit an application for consideration.
