My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We found Bernie a couple of months ago. He was being attacked by a very large Akita. We took him to the vet and besides some bumps and bruises, he was okay. The vet thinks Bernie is somewhere between 6-7 years old. It looks like he has been living on the streets for some time. He doesn’t have all his teeth, probably due to poor nutrition. He eats just fine though and sits and waits for us to prepare his food.

We have seen an amazing transformation in Bernie. He has become very attached to my husband. He loves me but adores my husband. Bernie now loves to snuggle and is always smiling. He gets on the couch and lounges, plays with his toys, knows his name and is housebroken. He loves being pet and gently paws at you when you stop petting him. He is only about 40 lbs, so a little guy. Bernie was diagnosed with heartworm has gone through heartworm treatment. He is up to date on shots and is neutered. Bernie needs a gentle, caring home. He is a sweet soul. Bernie is a ladies man and is good with female dogs and all cats. He tolerates male dogs but prefers the ladies. Kids over the age of 12 would be best. We have not tested him around younger kids. We are willing to transport Bernie in or out of Texas to a good forever home.
