My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to Frankie. He is about 2 years old. He is a Beagle/Bulldog cross, which makes him a great sized dog for any living situation. He is about 40lbs and is white and brown. He has the cutest docked tail that is always wagging! He is a sweet dog with a great temperament and personality.

Frankie was a stray at an animal control facility and was not claimed by his owner. He is a very sweet dog with a lot of love to give. We can’t understand why someone wouldn’t claim him but maybe it’s for the best as Frankie needs a forever family that will commit to him and be loyal to him and never abandon him. Because he will be such a loyal and loving dog to his family. He wants to be curled up by your side or your lap if you will let him. His tail is always wagging and he is always willing to give lots of hugs!! He deserves a family who is devoted to him as he will be to them. He needs to belong in a home where he will not be allowed to roam free and get lost, and where he can be confident he is in his forever home, not being lost or abandoned again.

Frankie is the right size for any type of home as long as it has a decent sized fenced in back yard for him to run and play. He would not be suitable for an apartment or condo situation. Frankie has a lot of energy. He is a dog that needs daily long walks or hikes, running, and/or playing exercise to be happy. Playing with a like-minded dog suits him very well also. He will bark at the occasional distraction outside, and during play with our dog but is not a nuisance barker. Most of the time you will find him cuddled up next to you, or following you wherever you go. Frankie loves to play. A large space for him to run in would be a great benefit! He is very rough and tough with his toys. He needs many tough rope or rubber toys that are not easy for him to tear apart. He also loves to sit and chew his bones. Frankie enjoys all forms of exercise offered to him. He does well with regular fast paced walks, and lots of play in the yard. Frankie loves to be outside with us. He also loves playing with other dogs and this interaction and socialization with other playful dogs is necessary for him to be happy. Frankie needs an active family that will make sure he is walked every day at least once but ideally more than once, and will combine this with yard play, running, and activity. Because he is part Beagle he cannot be trusted off leash outside of a fenced in area. He could get a smell and follow it until he is lost. He is good in the car and will be a great car ride companion especially if it is taking him to fun places. He needs to be seatbelted in though as he will want to be on your lap otherwise. Overall he is just a great buddy and is up for any activity you want to participate in with him.

Frankie loves to be snuggled and pet. He is happiest when he is by your side, getting petted or when he's getting belly rubs as he's right beside you. He can never get enough love and affection. He actually likes to give hugs to anyone who crouches down to him ..it is adorable! He loves to be brushed and will lie still while you brush him. Frankie has shown himself to be quite the retriever and will return balls thrown for him…much better than his Golden Retrieve foster sister in fact!

Frankie has been a good boy during his stay with us. He is now house trained but Frankie needs supervision when loose in the house and has to be taken out regularly. You can’t wait for him to ask to go out; you need to just take him out. With supervision and regular outside time he has coming along nicely. Frankie is also crate trained. He can sleep in his crate at night or can sleep in your room with you, and stays in his crate when we are away from the house throughout the day. For the most part Frankie does not mind his crate, but avoids going in there when he doesn’t have to. He is quiet in his crate once he settles and rests until you return.

Frankie is living in a full house! He has a golden retriever and four cats to keep him company. He has settled in nicely with his foster dog sister. It only took a few moments for the two of them to become the best of friends. They play throughout the day, chasing each other, playing tug of war, seeing who can get the toy away first. Frankie would love to be adopted by someone who has another friendly, well-behaved, and playful dog. If there is no other dog in the home then regular play dates with good natured dog friends will be needed to keep up Frankie’s socialization and need for doggie friends. Frankie also has four cats as his new friends. He shows much interest in the cats but hasn’t quite figured out how he is supposed to play with them. He needs occasional reminders that he's not allowed to chase them. He would be okay in a home with cats that will tolerate an active dog.

Frankie is being fostered in a home with three children. The children adore him and he loves receiving affection from them. Occasionally he will jump up on them. He needs to be reminded that this is not allowed. We would like Frankie to go to a home with no young children. We would consider a home with kids over 12yrs of age if the new owner is an experienced dog owner and knows to supervise the interactions. He would ideally be best in an adult home where he can be the focus and get the lion’s share of the attention while he is still young and needing training.

Frankie is being taught basic obedience in his foster home and is attending dog school where he is doing quite well. He is learning basic commands like sit, come, stay and to walk nicely on leash. He needs someone who will be consistent with him and continue with his training. Frankie is learning not to jump up on people. He jumps up because of excitement or because he wants attention. He is learning to sit to get the attention he wants. He is a mix of 2 breeds that are known to be stubborn so he needs a patient handler that understands that consistency is key and who will put the extra effort in to make sure Frankie learns what is being taught to him. He must attend obedience school with his new family so that he learns in a group setting with distractions and his family can get tips and advice to bring out the best in this exuberant dog. He will be overjoyed to be in class with all the smells and other dogs and people and it will be great socialization for him along with great learning.

Frankie is a fantastic family dog who has all the love in the world to give. Whoever his future owners may be are very lucky people. With continued training and socialization, Frankie is going to be one amazing dog. He needs people who understand his breed mix and realize that he needs patience and consistency in his new home as he settles in. He can be stubborn which goes along with his breed so he is not a dog for a first time dog owner. But he would be a great dog for an experienced dog family looking for a medium sized, stocky dog that can partake in almost any activity you want to do with him. He doesn’t have the breathing problems of a purebred Bulldog so he can still be active in the warmer weather and participate in camping or hiking or whatever fun may be had. If you are an active person/people who wants a dog to participate in hikes, walks, runs, biking etc. and have the time to dedicate to exercising and training a dog then Frankie may be a great choice for you. He has been an easy dog to foster and an even easier dog to love.
