Meet a very special boy - Dexter. Dexter is a very playful and loving little guy. At seven months (as of March), he is pretty much full grown at 5.5 pounds. His personality is bigger than he is and the sparkle in his eyes captivates everyone he meets.
Dexter had a rough start to life, but is now ready to find his forever home. Dexter's story begins at Dallas Animal Services where he was brought in as a stray. Upon evaluation by the vet on duty, he noted Dexter had a skin issue and was in pain. He was immediately tagged for rescue only and CRT was called. Xrays revealed two fused vertebrae, either from trauma or a genetic abnormality, in his neck. His neck was also extremely short. This does not diminish his good looks. As a matter of fact, it makes him more adorable! Surgery was considered for his neck; but luckily, time has helped him and he no longer has pain. And his skin issue is totally clear. With our love and care, his coat is now perfect, silky and shiny.
Dexter's training is coming along well. He is very smart and knows how to sit, lay down and give you his paw. We are still working on stay and the final potty habits. Dexter also likes to go on short walks with his foster brother. He would love a home with another small dog or a very attentive set of parents.
Dexter loves other small dogs. He has a couple of foster puppies that are his size to play with and is having a blast. He likes his toys and he loves to be held by his humans and play with them too. He is a huge snuggler. If you want someone to hang around you and give you love after a hard day at work, Dexter is your guy!
Dexter is ready for his new forever home. However, as a result of his neck situation, we are looking for a home that does not have small children. If you think you can provide the safe but loving and caring home that would make Dexter a happy boy, please fill out an application.
Dexter is neutered, micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative. and on heartworm prevention. He is ready to join a loving family - could that family be yours?
This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $225 adoption fee required. .
