My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HUNTER: 1 Year Old Yellow Male Lab Neutered 75 Pounds
(Lab rescue is working on getting him neutered this week.)

It seems like Hunter was a frequent flyer at the Ukiah shelter. The owner refused to get him neutered and would keep him and his other dog that was also not neutered in the back yard during the day while he was gone. He had a fence that had some gaps so Hunter and his buddy would get out and roam around the neighborhood looking for some girlfriends. (I am sure since Hunter is so handsome and in such great shape he found quite a few unfortunately!) Each time your dog gets out and is not neutered the bill goes up so the owner met animal control in the field by the shelter and handed over his dogs and walked away. The shelter asked them to fill out some paper work but they did not take the time. They tried to reach the owners but the number was disconnected. The shelter gave him the name Hunter, so he has a fresh start with Lab Rescue. Lab Rescue knows the rescue person at the Ukiah shelter well so she called us right away as she wanted to get Hunter moved out of the shelter. He passed all the tests at the shelter with people and dogs; rode well in the car on the way down from the shelter to our boarding facility.

What we know about Hunter since we have had him:

Hunter is currently at our boarding facility we use in Petaluma. The facility owners use to train for guide dogs and know dogs well. They have ran Hunter with other female dogs and they have had their way with him! (He is a big marshmallow. We have not had him with other males as he is not neutered yet. He shows no interest in the other male dogs at the facility and he does not fence fight with the other male dogs.) He is clean in his kennel, he does not bark when he is in his run and he is not destructive. The kennel has some property in the back and we had Hunter in the back and all he wanted to do is run the fence line to see how he could get out. This is what he is use to and until his hormones are gone and until he is bonded with his new family, the new adopter will need to make sure if Hunter is in the back alone their yard is secure! He shows no interest in playing ball and has some leash skills but will need to be walked on a correction collar and will need a refresher on the leash! Hunter will need a home that can give him plenty of exercise, leadership and more training. He is a big/physical dog and will need to go to a home with kids that are older than 10-12 years of age and a home that has had experience with large dogs. Hunter is a wonderful boy but it will take structure, leadership and at least 2 hours of exercise each day to help Hunter become a good canine citizen!

Hunter is very healthy:

He came to us not neutered, (we are working on getting him neutered), has all his shots, heartworm negative, microchiped.

Hunter is located in Petaluma. If you have the time active boy and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Liz at 415-613-6374 or email liz@jobshopsf.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
