My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pepper: 10 year old spayed female yellow lab 81 lbs

Sweet Sweet Pepper!

She needs a new home and she deserves this to be her last home!

Pepper came to her new home from a breeder in the Napa area. The current owners saw an ad on craigslist and met with the breeder and felt sorry for Pepper as when they met her the wife mentioned her husband was done with Pepper as they could no longer breed her as she had an eye issue in her gene pool. The couple decided to take her home and Pepper has been a loving part of their family for the last 5 years. The couple need to give Pepper up for adoption as they watch their one year old grandchild and Pepper does not like her crawling / walking and giving her hugs. (The grandkid has a dog at home and is allowed to crawl on the dog, so she does not understand that Pepper does not want to play with her.) Pepper is a ten year old, female yellow lab. She is a loving, affectionate member of our family. She likes a lot of attention but is getting older and likes to spend much of the day curled up on her favorite rug. She loves to go on walks and sometimes on her walks she will get excited when she sees another dog. (She is not aggressive but she will pull on the leash to try to go over to say hello to them. GGLRR would suggest using a correction collar when walking Pepper.) Pepper is very friendly with other dogs and people once she goes over to say hello to them. (We have many people over to our home and have other dogs over to our home and Pepper has no issues.) We do not get Pepper out on regular walks and feel she also needs more exercise so she can lose a few pounds. She has a few quirks but don’t we all. She does not like dog beds – she only likes to lay on a rug. Pepper use to go down our stairs but since they are not carpeted and are steep, she prefers to hang out in the living room, the hall way and in the kitchen area. (If the adopter had stairs Pepper would be fine as long as they were carpeted. She will go down the stairs once you bring out the leash as she LOVES to go out for walks!) She is left alone in the home on a regular basis and will just sleep on her rug, she is housetrained and she is a dog that always seems to have a nice smile on her face. She can be in the home with another dog but not a home with cats. We would also recommend a home with older children.

From the trainer / evaluation of Pepper:

We had Pepper professionally evaluated since she has some insecurities with other dogs on leash. The trainer said she was a very friendly dog and liked the dogs and people that she was introduced to. She allowed the trainer to touch her all over but did seem a little worried when the trainer went to touch her paws. (Pepper was bitten by a rattle snake in one of her paws around 4 years ago. She is healed and has no health issues from this but we think her one paw may be a bit sensitive. She did not pull on the leash when they went for a walk, she did fine when meeting her dog – sniffed him and then just ignored him. She was a bit protective over a pig’s ear but allowed the trainer to take it away from her.

Pepper is very healthy other than she needs to lose a few more pounds. She is spayed, she has all her shots, she had a full blood panel done, she has had her thyroid checked, she is microchipped and she is heartworm negative. Pepper is one healthy girl!

She is located in Healdsburg.

If you are interested in having a very loyal companion, a companion who loves to go on walks and a companion that will give as much love as she gets, call Rescue Rep Liz 415-613-6374 or email liz@jobshopsf.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
