My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Chocolatier. I am a brown, 3-4 year old, 51 pound, spayed female lab mix. I think the light hair that gives me the distinguished, aged look comes from the “mix”. What is a lab mix doing in Newfoundland Rescue? Great Question! My friend Hershey Bear is a black, neutered, purebred male Newfoundland. We were found on a freezing street corner tied to a sign that said “Need a Home”. Someone picked us up and took us to a nice, warm shelter. The shelter wanted to keep us together, but no one came forward to adopt us. So, proving Newfie people are the BEST people, HANR agreed to take me along with Hershey Bear and help us find a home together.

Our Vet estimates Hershey Bear is 3-4 years old and he weighs in at 95 pounds. Since Hershey Bear would let me eat his food if our foster mom would let me, he is a little thin. Our foster parents are working with our Vet to put some more healthy weight on him.

At our foster home in Des Moines IA, we love to play with the other dogs and cuddle with the cat. Sometimes, one of the other dogs chases the cat, and we join in. It is just for fun and no one gets hurt, but our foster parents are trying to teach us that it is still not OK. We would love to snuggle with the humans on the couch, but they won’t let us do that, either!

When we go for walks, we have a very free-form style. We do not pull, but we do not have a straight forward motion, either. With some practice, we could be real PROS!

Together, we make a great team. Hershey Bear is rather mellow while I am a happy ball of energy. We both love attention and never fight with each other. Both of us are house trained and will go outside to potty. We have been through a lot and would love to stay together! We both get very stressed out when separated from each other.

Here is a link to a news story about our rescue. Rescue Story The story has the wrong age for me.

Our adoption fee is $350.00 for both dogs. A fenced yard with a minimum height of 4-feet is required for adoption.
If you plan on submitting an application and you are out of our region, once your application is approved we require that you come to our area to meet the dogs and foster family. If that goes well you will be able to take your pups home with you.
