Mikey is a handsome two-year-old Beagle/Jack Russell mix rescued from the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter. He has a beautiful soft coat with very pretty contrasting markings and a Zorro mask. Mikey is a very quiet, sweet, loving, and very easy to manage dog, but at the core, he is afraid of the “human” world around him IF he does not yet know you and trust you. For this reason, Mikey NEEDS another well socialized dog in the home that will show him the way in the new environment and give him the courage to be more engaging of the new people. Since he now knows me and trusts me, I see a completely different side to him. Mikey is upbeat, happy, and playful. He loves hanging with the other dogs or near me. Yet and still, he still often likes to “retreat” to his safe spot, which is typically his favorite pet bed, or under the human bed where it is quiet. One of the true challenges in rescue is, in fact, dogs like Mikey. People always want instant gratification. They want a dog that is not going to require any time or patience; everybody seems to want that instant connection of the dog approaching, wagging his tail, and saying, “Take me home!” Rescues frequently leave dogs like Mikey behind in shelters to be euthanized, because they know that they will have a more difficult time getting a dog such as him adopted. But some things are worth waiting for, and I, as a rescuer, still want to believe that there are folks out there who understand dogs like Mikey and will give him a chance. Maybe you have even known another dog like him during the course of your life. I could not bear to leave him behind in the shelter where he was so very afraid. The great thing about Mikey is that he is NOT aggressive in any way, shape or form. He has never shown aggression within his fear. He just melts and bends like a cat if you go and pick him up. In essence, Mikey just wants to be loved and love you back. The more comfortable he gets in a new environment, the more you will see the happy, joyful, playful side as he begins to “normalize” in a new setting.

Another FANTASTIC thing about Mikey, due to his submissive nature, is that he is totally FINE with cats. He has lived in one of the rescue’s foster homes where there are four cats. He is also GREAT with all other dogs, male and female, big and small, as long as the other dog is friendly to him. Mikey has a noticeable playful side, and he needs to/wants to play with the other dogs at the rescue, but he is not always playing by any means. He is also great at chasing ball and has learned to bring it back for the most part. If you consider yourself to be a compassionate, understanding, and patient person (or couple) and you seek a companion/friend for your already existing dog, and would like to work with our rescue to consider your home for Mikey, please contact Janet Cook at Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue. The home for Mikey is one whereby the people are totally OK with letting the dog “be,” and relaxing in the process that Mikey will take a bit longer to adjust. We feel there should be at least one woman in the home since Mikey tends to be less fearful of women. The adoptive home MUST have another friendly dog within the home itself.

Mikey is neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped and weighs about 18-20 lbs. He is crate-trained and sleeps very quietly in a small 36 inch long wire crate at night. He is potty-trained however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment. If you are interested in discussing giving this wonderful, happy, but sensitive boy a loving, quiet and tolerant home, please contact Angels Heart Dog Rescue at adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail. Why Adoption is a Great Option

Mikey, a Temecula Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier for sale in Temecula, or seeking a Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier dog from a breeder in Temecula.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Temecula already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Temecula breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier breeders who help with Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Temecula paves the way for another one to be saved.
