** Herding breeds have a huge appeal in their looks, size, energy level but sadly many do not fully understand the breeds genetics or smarts. They are a highly sensitive breed, intelligent and need an owner who is educated and prepared for the incredible companionship this breed can give but also the challenges that come with this breed. Please take a moment to read the info in these 2 links to be sure you are prepared and committed to 15 + yrs of investment into this breeds well-being .**

FULL BIO IS BELOW
***************************************************************************************************.
WHY IS HE HERE ?- This boy came from a shelter where they kill for lack of space or their time is up.

WHERE IS HE NOW?- This boy is fostered near London . He is living with other dogs of various ages, and is used to cats and calm respectful teens.

He is very sweet and we have confirmed what the pound said, that it is true that he wants to be a lap dog. About 40 lbs, and two years old.Though his pics make him look like a large dog... He is a smaller dog- below ones knee!! He has met dogs and cats and is excellent with them

He is neutered, vaccinated, fecal tested and dewormed, and heartworm tested.

His adoption fee is $400.

PERSONALITY Happy, affectionate, smart, active, handsome..a real bundle of joy!

ENERGY LEVEL I would describe Logan as high energy. He loves to play and run and chase anything that moves. He can spot everything from a fly to a toad to a deer and lets us know with happy barking whenever he discovers something. He is very quiet and well behaved in the house but gets many hours of outside activity to burn off his energy during the day

PACKMATES and CATS
Excellent with all other dogs. Can be a bit of a pest at times trying to get them to play and has tried to steal food from one other submissive dog, but he absolutely delights in playing and running around with dogs of all shapes and sizes. We do not have cats, and he does love to chase small animals like squirrels and rabbits etc. but he has lived with cats in the past So may be fine with proper intro's and transitioning with boundaries..

HOUSE RULES
Logan is quiet and well behaved in the house. He is required to sit at the door before being let out and to sit before meal time and automatically does so. He is a smart boy and knows the routine, but also recognizes the difference between us and a visitor and will sometimes try to get out the door without sitting and waiting if it is a visitor at the door and we are not there to supervise.

LEASH TRAINING- MANNER - COMMANDS
Logan walks very well on a leash and knows all basic commands. He is very smart and complies immediately when he knows what is expected of him. He generally comes quickly when called, but if he is excited or engaged in a hunt or chase he may not listen. Ongoing training is important.

FOOD - TOYS -
Logan gets very excited and meal time and wolfs down his food in record time. He has shown a couple of incidents of food protectiveness but has responded well to correction and is much improved. He knows to sit and wait before his meal is put down. Supervision at mealtime is necessary and he should not be disturbed while eating.

Logan likes to chew on nylabones or throw around a toy, but playing with toys is second choice if he has the option of playing with other dogs, going for a walk or ride, or chasing squirrels and patrolling the property.

BATHING CARE - Logan enjoys being groomed and is easy to work with.

YARD MANNERS
We live in a rural area with a large fully fenced acreage that Logan is allowed to run in freely. He has not shown any interest in trying to get out of the yard but does run around and around the property playing with the other dogs, checking things out and chasing birds, rabbits or anything that might come into his space. He has shown an interest in digging holes and has started a few excavations behind the garage. He can also be quite vocal if he spots anything.

CRATE Logan is very good and quiet in his crate.-

TRAVELING IN CAR -
Logan absolutely loves going for car rides. The prospect of seeing new places and meeting new people is very appealing to him. He is well behaved in the car and looks forward to going along for a ride anywhere.

CURRENT ROUTINE
-Logan goes to bed at around 10 pm and is up around 6. He sleeps in his crate at night and is very good and quiet and settles down nicely. He is quiet, polite and obedient in the house. In addition to several hours of free running and playing outside
he is taken daily for a 2 or more mile walk and goes on regular drives to other areas for exercise and also just for the drive on trips when we go for takeout etc.

THE BEST HOME IS ? -

Must have a quiet rural type setting and a teens/ adult only home. A home that is active/ busy with visitors or busy cottage exposure is not for him . No Exposure to small /children under the age of 10-12 yrs of age / children that are loud/ busy... as their busy sounds/ actions make him uncertain. He does not like or do well with the busyness of such environments

A home that can provide the training, mental stimulation and active environment that border collies require. He needs high level activity daily in addition to walks and would not do well locked up in a crate all day. Because of his excitement level, herding instinct and the incidents of food protectiveness, an adult home or home with children no younger than 12 would be best. He loves to run and play and dig and he can be quite vocal at times , so a home in the country or with a large yard would be best. Another dog to play with would be great and an owner that is familiar with the breed and its energy requirements and nature would be ideal.

We welcome your application to be considered for this Sweet soft boy. You won't be disappointed!!

PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT OF THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO AND WILL NOT SHIP A PET!

*** HOW IT WORKS - ADOPTION INFORMATION ****
Please read ** ALL** the information provided below on the process to
save time and facilitate the process in a smooth manner.

The adoption fee does NOT cover the cost of vetting or supplies for these animals - If you cannot afford the adoption fee
(that is a fraction of actual REDUCED VETTING expenses incurred) then you should reconsider adopting.
These animals deserve forever homes, good food, regular vet care, and emergency care as needed.
Pets should never be euthanized by their owners simply based on financial consideration when something goes wrong.

Applications
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/applications.html--This is a MS Word copy of our application.
It can be completed, saved and emailed back to the rescue at
petrescue@hurontel.on.ca .

1. We require a fully filled app to be considered as a possible home
2. Only the approved app will be premitted a viewing with the pet ** in the foster home **
3. ALL family members MUST meet the dog ** in the foser home** .
4. Any exsisting pets MUST attend the meet/ greet with the dog ** at the foster home ** .
5. A home visit must be completed as part of the adoption process after the inital viewing by a rescue representative.
This is not a replacement of the meet/ greet at the Foster home.
6. We do not adopt outside of ONTARIO .

****PLEASE DO NOT USE SKYE DRIVE OR COMPLETE THE APP TO FAX OR SCAN TO EMAIL IN AS WE ARE NOT ON A HIGH SPEED CONNECTION.

If you have any difficulties with the various application options please let us know @ petrescue@hurontel.on.ca

**** You must complete an adoption application in FULL in order for rescue to determine if the dog/cat is a good match for you and you are a good match for the Pet.

**** We do not show dogs /cats to people that merely want to drop in and look at the pet or see multiple pets **** .Not only are the pets fostered in various foster homes in various towns often hundreds of kilometres apart and not only do we simply do not have the manpower for that - more importantly it is unfair for the pet to be shown to various people and passed by - therefore we chose the most suitable application for the pet - then schedule a viewing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** ARE YOU FULLY COMMITTED ??????? .
Rescue values the time applicants put into filling out our application and the consideration of welcoming a new member into the family/ home.

Please be considerate to rescue AND volunteers when committing to a viewing.
Too many times rescue ends up making repeated changes d/t repeated delays for the approved applicant/ application. With delays - Rescue and pets are also impacted as rescue invests personal time around personal family time/ work time and cost of travel/ gas when arranging a viewing only to then have a late cancelation /applicants not even show up with no notification or even then have applicants back out .
Repeated delays hold up foster spots for pets in crisis and in turn it can cost them their lives!!.

**** PLEASE DON'T BE THE CAUSE OF AN ANIMAL IN NEED TO LOOSE THEIR LIFE D/T BEING OUT OF TIME **.

**** If we do not carefully screen where cats/ dogs are adopted to then the cycle would only continue when the ill-suited dog ends up back in the pound.

**** As it stand pounds are begging us to find space for healthy and adoptable dogs/ cats (who will be euthanized due to a simple lack of space) - So we Thank You in advance for respecting our successful process.

SAFE PLACEMENT FOR PET AND HOME

We welcome enquiries from applicants with well-behaved canines. Please do not apply if your dog has any possession aggression, or resource guards food/toys/space/owners, has leash aggression or aggression towards other dogs. This is for the safety of our foster dog/ cat and to ensure they do not become fear defensive.
We thank you for wanting to rescue a dog/ cat and simply ask that you address and correct your dog's issues before adding an adoptive animal in to the home. By allowing only well socialized and well trained pets to be considered as a possible forever home for our rescue dogs we are looking out for both our foster dog/ cat and your dog's own best interest. We also ask that if your cat is not used to having a dog around that you expose them to a family or friend's dog several times to see if they will accept a new family member within their home, before applying.

IF YOU FEEL YOUR CURRENT PACK IS STABLE & READY FOR A NEW MEMBER WE WELCOME YOUR INTEREST
Our rescue prides itself on adopting out the proper dog/cat to the proper family. If you would like to be considered for one of our dogs/cats please complete a adoption application as outlined in this bio.
If you are a successful applicant you will be asked to come to a viewing at the dog's/ cats foster home with your entire family, as well as your existing dog { if any }. This viewing will allow your family, the foster home and I to see if this is a suitable match.
We will all take 24 hours to mull it over and go from there. Adoptions are not rushed. Our priority is placing the dog/cat in the proper family. On intake a new dog/ cat is assessed in a foster home to determine which type of home suits them best.

We will give preference to any application that has the fortitude to take their newly adopted dog to training to bond or cat into a safe indoor enviroment and learn together from a professional as needed who has the dog's best interest at heart.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOSTERING

If there are any dog/ cat lovers out there now is the time to step up - there are many on the short list to be killed in shelters all over due to simple lack of space - please consider helping now - dogs/ cats are killed every hour - they die by being jabbed thru the heart (heart-sticking) and being gassed to death more often than humane euthanization!

Here are some links with additional info-
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/before-you-adopt-or-foster.html
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/faq---foster.html
If you are interested in fostering - please fill out the application here :
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/applications.html

We always need foster homes for the constant influx of new dogs/ cats in need - if you are interested in fostering - please consider that the rescue vets the cat /dog before they go in to foster care - they also provide a new dog collar and rescue i.d. tag on intake - as well as food - and any additional vetting needed thereafter the initial vetting.

We are happy to consider your home to foster an appropriate pet for your lifestyle if you are a believer in positive reinforcement and keeping cat indoors & dog on lead until recall and boundary trained, unless in a completely secure off leash area - We welcome foster homes in the Guelph/ Kitchener/Cambridge to London to Durham to Goderich area.

Please contact the rescue via email at petrescue@hurontel.on.ca
For more info if you are interested in fostering - again we do ask that you complete our application so we know your expectations and can match with you a dog/cat that suits.
