My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NIBBLER is a 18 month old neutered black male Lab that weighs 58 pounds. Nibbler must go to a home with no children and a 6 ft. fence. Nibbler is a typical energetic young enthusiastic boy. He is such a fabulous dog! Nibbler is a sweet, loving boy with a great attitude that has overcome so many obstacles. He is ready and hoping to find his forever home soon. Prior to coming to Lab Rescue, he was hit by a car and sustained major injuries. He has been cleared by the vets now, and is not restricted in any way. He has been exceptionally well behaved considering he’s been crated with restricted exercise since mid-December. He is working on rebuilding strength in his back legs, re-growing hair and softening his shoulder skin. Sometimes he will hold the injured rear leg up after exercising. Once rested, he will put the leg back down and use it normally. Nibbler will need his new owner to rub lotion/vitamin E/Vaseline on his shoulder scars for a few more weeks to help him soften the area. Prior to coming into foster care, Nibbler didn’t have much discipline in his life. Hence he will need an experienced dog owner who can continue helping him learn right from wrong, and keep him safe. He has learned so much while in foster care and is very eager to please and learn more. He is very responsive to easy commands with simple training techniques. Nibbler gets along with his foster pack. Nibbler has learned sit and wait. He will go into his crate on command. He is working on stay. He knows he must sit and wait before eating. Foster mom places bowl of food in front of him, and he will wait until given the OK to eat. He also knows he must sit and wait at the back door for permission before going outside. He will need a home with a high fence (minimum 6 ft) to keep him safe. A home away from busy street traffic is also best for him. He has a high prey drive. Nibbler is good with other dogs with the proper introduction. He would be best in an experienced adult only home where he can continue learning right from wrong.

Update (3/25): Nibbler has healed beautifully from his terrible injuries. He loves to run around the yard and play with other dogs. He will do better with other playful dogs. Nibbler will clear a fence without any problems, so he needs to have a 6-foot fence. He is crate trained and has learned many commands. His foster parents continue to enjoy his company.

Update (2/24): Nibbler continues to do well and thrive in his foster home! Nibbler is learning how to walk by your side without pulling. He has a ways to go on this, but is practicing. Once his shoulder scaring heals his new owner could switch to an easy walk harness/collar combo which will help with his walking skills. When outside Nibbler is curious about everything and just wants to run. He can jump straight up in the air as well. He appears to have some prey drive in him – watching anything and everything that moves outdoors. Nibbler has been a really great house guest. We haven’t seen any counter surfing or destructive behavior at all. The only thing he likes to do is carry his foster mom’s slippers around the house. He is respectful of gates that aren’t even secured. He has learned that he isn’t allowed in certain rooms and respects boundaries even without gates. Nibbler rides well in the car. He stays in the back of the SUV and looks at the world go by wagging his tail.
