My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nicky is a spayed female cat born in summer 2014. She is looking for her forever home. Here is a description of her from her foster dad:

“Nicky isn’t feral anymore, but not your usual, outgoing tame cat. She’s sort of in between. She acts normal most of the time, but now and then, it’s as if ghosts appear and she gets nervous. Something scares her, maybe just a tone of voice, new scent, or new person. She adapts but it takes her time, and patience is paramount with her. She improves in spurts - nothing for a while, then something is different and she’s okay with it. Her improvements are rather abrupt, like kids having growth spurts. Now and then there’s a relapse but that lasts only a day. Otherwise, I can walk around her fine, pet her most of the time, she greets me, etc... She’s a hard one to peg. She’s never bitten or scratched. Picking her up is okay only when she eats, to a point, but she won’t be held or carried. She’s no lap cat. She wants on but lacks the confidence. She’ll sleep on the bed with me and other cats, or right on the floor beside my chair. She wants to be near and be social.

I’m sure she’ll get better with time but it would take a special person for her. A woman would be best as far as tone of voice. You can’t speak to her in a deep tone of voice or she gets scared. The adoptive home would have to keep her indoors for months at first to earn her trust or she could just run away out of fear. She trusts me but a new home would likely not make her too trusting at first. Maybe with time, she may be mostly ok. I see her being an outdoor cat. She badly wants out now, seeing my cats go in and out. I doubt she’d ever want to come back in during summer.”
