My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SWEET PEA is a 6 year old spayed black female Lab who weighs 54 pounds. She is a very sweet, friendly girl who likes attention and sits nicely. She is very friendly with other dogs. .When Sweet Pea arrived she had a horrific ear infection. After getting opinions from several vets and surgeons, it was decided that she needed to have a complete ear ablation (removal of the ear canal), as well as removing the ear flaps due to the extent of the infection and the condition of her ears. Sweet Pea did very well and has recovered. She's no longer feeling pain like she was when she arrived a month ago. Her staples came out last week, and she's been in a wonderful foster home. Foster mom reports that after a good night's sleep, the next day Sweet Pea started pulling toys out and a few minutes later she and one of the resident dogs were playing tug and playing like crazy. Sweet Pea is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (8/5): Sweet Pea is patiently waiting for her forever family. In the meantime she enjoys naps on the bed, car rides, walks, and snuggling on the sofa. She is such a happy girl - her tail goes 100 mph wherever she goes. Sweet Pea is a wonderful companion who is satisfied just to be near you. She takes treats gently and will even show you her prettiest sit as soon as she sees the treat jar coming out. She has a perfect energy level - she loves to play, but is very relaxed when she's not. She's such a wonderful girl.

Update (8/02): My foster mom just can't believe that I haven't been scooped up yet. I'm house trained, friendly to cats, good in my crate while my foster mom steps out,... She says I'm the best. I also adore hanging out with my humans and playing with my toys. I'm deaf, but it doesn't bother me one bit. I'm always watching my foster mom or my canine siblings so I don't miss out on anything. I know my basic commands by hand signal and I'm very good about sitting nicely for treats. I've also been told I'm a dream on a leash. I would love to have a family to call my own.

Update (5/8): ISO WLF (wonderful loving family) to call my own. A few months ago Lab Rescue took me in with severe ear infections. Their only option was to remove my inner and outer ears. Since then, I have been healing and learning all about living indoors and being part of a family. I LOVE being part of a family and meeting new people. Being deaf doesn't slow me down a bit - I just keep an eye on my foster family and follow them around to make sure I'm not missing out on anything (mainly food). I figured out that if I sit nicely, they give me treats. I also love car rides and my toys. My foster mom says I have a big personality and calls me a little stinker. You steal all the shampoo, conditioner and body wash out of the shower and hide them one time and you're labeled a stinker. So unfair. Did I mention how cute I am?

Update (3/29): Sweet Pea is doing great. She's come so far in terms of acclimating to being an inside dog. She is now officially housebroken! Woohoo! Sweet Pea is getting along fantastically with the resident dogs and loves to play for hours on end. She is also very good with the cats. Her dry rough coat has been replaced with a sleek, shiny one - she looks so much healthier. Even her eyes look brighter. Sweet Pea adores all people and loves to hang out on the sofa for some belly rubs and living. She is also very good on a leash. She also has a bit of a stinker side to her. She hoards things - toys, socks, random stuff. She doesn't destroy the items, she just hides them. I found quite the collection of trinkets under the guest bed pillow. She's such a sweet little nut.

Update (3/23): Sweet Pea has really blossomed over the last few weeks. She is a super friendly, super playful girl that LOVES toys. Sweet Pea greets everyone she meets with a wiggling body and kisses. The loss of her hearing hasn't phased her at all. She has adapted to the house dog lifestyle quite well and can't wait to get a family to call her own.

Update (3/01): Sweet Pea has made so much progress in the last week. She is really coming out of her shell. She is getting along well with the resident dogs and LOVES to play tug. She and Maddie play constantly. She sniffs at the cats, but is good with them. Sweet Pea has not met a human she doesn't love - she is super friendly to everyone she meets. We are working on basic obedience ( trying to work with hand signals) and walking on a leash. She sleeps very quietly all night on a dog bed next to our bed. Sweet Pea is a great dog and given all the changes she's gone through in the last month, she is really adapting quite well and appears to be very happy.
