Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Niko" is a handsome 1½-yo black/red male GSD who is very affectionate and relatively mellow for a dog that young. Niko is great with people, and will be fine with children of all ages. He was in a foster home w/ two 4-yo kids for a few days and did fine with the kids. Niko is great with other dogs--playful, but not over-the-top. I don't know how Niko is with cats, but he does not seem to have a very strong prey drive, so I might consider a home w/ a cat for him--if there is also another large dog in the home that he can interact with. Niko weighs approx 72 lbs.
Niko is completely housetrained and non-destructive in the house--at least in the company of the many dogs that he's presently with. I haven't had him on leash here at my place, but he's a fairly calm dog and I envision him being easy on leash. He has pretty good recall off-leash. Niko does not appear to have had much training, so a formal obedience class would be a very good idea for whoever adopts him.
Niko really likes to be near his person. When I first took him in, he was always hanging out in my office when I was working, and stayed close to me when I was cleaning up the yards--even when most of the other dogs are out on the open property. Now, Niko is more independent and interactive with the other dogs, but I know he's still primarily a "people dog." Niko would do best in a home where he is not left alone for very long.
GSRSV rescued Niko from the Pinole shelter on 2-13-15. He was brought in to the shelter as a stray on 1-28, and not claimed by his owner. Niko was in a foster home for three days, but they had to make room for a dog that we expected to be returned, so he came to GSRSV's rescue facility on 2-15.
Niko is scheduled to be neutered on 4-25. His adoption fee is $275, which will include a microchip.
