My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to Snaggle (or Snags for short) a Schnauzer/Shih Tzu cross and weighs about 15lbs. Snaggle was abandoned on a rural road in the evening of one of the coldest days in January. Thankfully, he was found in time, shivering and alone and taken to a local pound. It was evident that he was not cared for, when he was rescued from a local pound his hair was long, matted, and he was covered in fleas. Through the matted mass of hair out stuck the most adorable snaggle tooth and thus the origin of his name. We believe he is 6 or 7 years old, but now that he is well cared for he has the energy and spunk of a much younger dog. He has had a haircut, and a much needed a dentistry where he lost many of his teeth, but the snaggle tooth remained!

When Snaggle arrived at his foster home he met the foster family’s cat. He loves the cat and made fast friends with her, or at least he thinks he did, the cat has another opinion! He got super excited meeting the visiting dog and will need more socialization around dogs to be calmer when he greets them. Snaggle is friendly with dogs but just wouldn’t leave the Lab alone and became annoying to her. When Snaggle gets over excited he can be a bit nippy so we don’t allow him to get all worked up. It appears that Snaggle was handled aggressively in his previous life. As he has settled into his foster home he has become more trusting. His foster mom is working on building Snaggle’s trust in humans every day and he has come a long way. It is recommended that his adoptive family should not have children under 10 years old. Snaggle is being fostered with an 11 year old boy and sleeps on his bed every night. Snaggle is not scared or stressed by this little human’s rambunctious personality. As for Snaggle’s feline foster sister, he would love to play with her, but he is reminded that she likes her personal space. Snaggle would do well in a home with a feline companion and probably a dog buddy as long as it is a calmer dog that wouldn’t mind his overt attention the first few days. He would do equally well being the only pet and getting all of the attention.

Snaggle is house trained and has not had an accident in the home. He is not crated and has full run of the house. He has never damaged anything in the home and can be left several hours without an accident. Let me warn you, when you arrive home you will be met with a happy, loving dog. He will run around in circles chasing his tail to show how excited he is that you have come home. Just as you sit down and relax he will bring his stuffy over to you and give a little bark to get your attention. Trust me, no matter how tired you are when you look down at the big eyes and adorable snaggle tooth you will not be able to resist throwing his toy. He will chase the toy and bring it back, but he likes to tease you with the toy. When you go to grab it he will growl in a playful manner. He is quite the ham! Snaggle is a little dog, but he loves his outdoor time. He is not a fan of the cold weather we have been having but he will be a dog who will love his walks when it is not so ferociously cold. Don’t be fooled by his little size, he will keep you walking at a good pace. When play time is over, Snaggle will curl up with you on the couch and give you a few licks on the hand to show how thankful he is.

Snaggle is suited to most any living situation. He is quiet in the home so could live in an apartment or condo setting as long as he gets his exercise and daily walks. He would also love a home with a backyard to run around in. He requires regular grooming as his fur is for the most part non- shedding and continues to grow. Snaggle is so cute and greets everyone with a waggy tail and big smile. He is very social and loves meeting new people. He needs to attend obedience school with his new family to learn new skills and to form a strong bond and establish his new people as authority figures. Snaggle is eager to learn and will do great in a dog school setting and will surely be the teachers favourite! It is hard to resist this little, happy, smiling boy with the gnarly tooth sticking out of his lower jaw. It gives him such personality!! Snaggle is personality plus and would love a home where his people are around him more than away. If you love long walks and play sessions followed by snuggles on the couch then this just might be the dog for you!

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and microchipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.
