My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MOLLY: 10 Year Old Yellow Spayed Female 55 Pounds

Molly came to Lab Rescue as she was a frequent flyer at the Ukiah shelter and she used up all her miles with the shelter. (Meaning since she was at the shelter so often her owner decided that this was the last time and he was not going to come and bail her out. We spoke to the owner and he said he just could not afford the $300 each time she ended up at the shelter. That he told her this was the last time he would come bail her out!) The Ukiah shelter would not be able to get Molly adopted due to her age so the asked Lab rescue if we could take her into our program. We had the shelter perform an evaluation on her and she passed all tests and was loaded up and on her way to Lab rescue’s boarding facility.

We tracked down Molly’s owner and this is what he had to say about Molly:

They have owned Molly since she was 8 weeks of age. Their daughter got her from a friend and then when she took Molly home the landlord said no large dogs. Molly then went to mom and dad’s home. Molly has been a well-loved pet for the last 10 years but the owners work full time and expect Molly to stay in the yard during the day while they work. (Sounds easy but they have no secure fencing around their property. Molly stayed on the property the last 8 years but they got two other black labs and a border collie and then this is when the mess started. The other dogs were not neutered so they would wander off and of course Molly would follow. (Thank god Molly was spayed!) They could not understand why the dogs would not just stay in the yard? Since Molly was the oldest she was the one they decided would stay at the shelter as they had limited funds and could not afford to bail out all the dogs. The owners told Lab rescue that Molly is a very friendly dog and has been around all people and children with no issues. She has been around all kinds of dogs and has lived with several dogs and has not had any issues. She loves to swim, loves to chase the ball and of course loves to go for car rides! They have maybe heard her only bark once since they have owned her and she is not destructive when left alone. They have not had any health issues since they have owned her and they wish they could keep her but they are on limited funds.

We currently have Molly in our boarding facility that we use and she is doing well.

She has all her shots, she is spayed, she is heartworm negative and she is microchipped.

Molly is located in Petaluma but will be moved to San Jose in the next week!

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
