My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COOPER: 6 year neutered Chocolate Lab Mix 50 lbs

Cooper is a darling, sweet boy who came to Lab Rescue as his owner was getting divorced and couldn't keep him. We believe he is a Vizsla or Pointer mix as he has slighter body build than a full-bred Lab. He was owner-surrendered from a home where he was loved (a least by his human mom) but not cared for very well. He had an untreated ear infection that caused a large hematoma in one ear, some fur was rubbed off around his eyes and the skin on his nose was raw. His ear stood out from his head when met him but we could see what a loving boy he was--he just needed some serious TLC. Cooper has found this TLC and more from his Lab Rescue foster family. He has had surgery on his ear to remove the hematoma and is getting healthier food. He has gained weight and is feeling much better. Cooper is gaining trust in people again--was skittish around men when he first came to us--and is part of a loving foster family. He's ready to look for a stable, loving place to call home! From the foster: "Cooper is a very sweet boy. If you want a grown up dog in a puppy’s body he’s for you. He is crate trained, housebroken, and can be left alone in the house without worry. He is a bit of a leaner and loves to be rubbed. He has gone running with me several times, and does really well, but doesn’t seem to need a lot of exercise to stay calm in the house. He knows sit, stay, down, “go to your bed”, and waits for his food. He walks well on a leash unless he sees another dog then he will pull. We are working on socializing him a bit more. He was a bit scared and apprehensive when we first got him, but is doing much better meeting strangers. He was also underweight when he came to us, but has put on 5lbs, and probably could put on some more. He gets along great with our 3-year old lab, and our eleven year old daughter. He does not do well with cats, and will chase them. He will be best with someone who will be patient with him as he gets to know you. He will do great with a family with older kids and would be fine with another dog, but also seems like he’d be okay as an “only” dog."

If you are interested in learning more about sweet Cooper, please contact Rescue Rep Allison at 415-806-2490. (Text is fine too, just tell me something about yourself.)

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
