Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET FRED
This handsome little red doxie puppy was found in the forests of Oregon after being left to fend for himself with no food or water. After two weeks, he was caught by by Animal Control and the Sheriff's Dept who then called Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. to help him heal and find a forever family to love and cherish him. As the newest member of the ODR, Inc. puppy brigade, we know this adorable little 10-11 month old prince will steal your heart as he has stolen all of ours. FRED will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (retired or work from home) and if there are children, the should be over the age of 10 and familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. His family will need to provide puppy training as well, but this little fella is cute, sharp and will catch on quickly. Also, the two-three weeks that little Fred spent running around the forest shrunk his tummy so he is about 2-3 pounds underweight. He needs small home-cooked meals each day until he is up to full strength.
Like all Dachshunds, FRED is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with the security of his own home, FRED needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give No Name a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
