My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Precious is a well behaved, loveable girl that would do well in just about any family situation. She knows her basic commands and is eager to please her people. She is a moderate energy dog who would enjoy a walk each day to check out the neighbourhood but is happy to be doing whatever her people want to do. She is very snuggly and loves her belly rubs! Precious would be fine for a first time dog owner. She is approximately 4 - 6 years old and currently weighs 36 lbs.

Here is what her foster family had to say:

Precious is a loveable pup who has an endearing smile and huge puppy eyes. She is eager to please and wants to be your companion wherever you go. Also, as an added bonus, she is able to catch a ball (or treat) mid-air! She is a healthy looking pup with a solid body. She eats until she is full and then she stops or gets distracted, but she always has room for treats! She has relatively low energy and a calm demeanour. She is happy to go for a walk or jog around the park but is really more interested in whatever it is you are doing. She spends her free time snoozing at your feet or beside you and loves her belly rubs!

Precious is very respectable and friendly with both family, friends, and strangers she meets on our walks of all ages including very young children. She has not barked or run up to children and doesn't jump up at new people. Precious isn't shy but she does like to get to know a person a bit before she really comes out of her shell. She has met a few dogs on our walks and although she is interested in them from afar, when they get closer she does bark and jump in their direction. This is easily rectified since as soon as they are out of sight she continues on her way as if nothing has happened.

Precious is not fond of her crate and does whine when she is initially put in there, but goes in willingly with a treat. Precious has not had any issue with anxiety or accidents in the home and has not shown any inkling of destructive behaviours. She doesn't seem to be afraid of anything. She is not fond of the vacuum but didn't appear scared and didn't bark - she just left the room - and she tolerated blow dryers as well. She has no concerns with passing vehicles. Precious wants to be with you and is happy to accompany you regardless of your activity. She likes to play catch, but hasn't quite got the hang of fetch. She loves peanut butter and will spend a good deal of time getting that out of the kong toy and she will take you up for belly rubs whenever they are offered! All in all, she just wants your company and will snuggle beside you and nap until you are ready for some activity. Precious has only barked during play time, with some quiet growling to herself when she hears someone in the hall or at the door.

Precious has great manners! She would love to have some people food but won't beg or steal anything from your plate. She hasn't tried chewing anything and has shown no interest in what's on top of tables or counters. She knows quite a few commands, some more consistent than others: off, no, sit, come, wait, sidewalk (she tends to wander a bit on walks), stay, OK, up, paw, and sit pretty (with her front paws up). She definitely needs to be redirected as she is easily distracted by new people, loud sounds, and the possibility of food. She is fully house trained.

Precious isn't fond of her crate and at this point it is only used if we are out of the home for a full work/school day (9am-4pm), otherwise she has shown no issues with toiling or destructive behaviours. She has a dog bed and a blanket available to her to sleep at night and she much prefers those to her crate - although her favourite place to be is in bed with you if you let her! Precious is leash trained while walking with her harness. She will take all the leash you offer, but she doesn't pull - unless she sees a squirrel! She walks at a slow trot and we imagine she would be fine for a child (~10) to walk her as she is very responsive to commands. Precious is required to sit and stay before the door is opened and is able to follow those commands regularly. She is much more interested in the people who are with her or coming home than getting outside. Precious is wonderful in the car, she has no issue getting in or out and has shown no anxiety while sitting in the back seat.

Precious is an adoring pet who wants to be with you and make you happy. She is easy to get along with, follows commands, and is the perfect size!

Precious would do well in a home that can provide her with the attention and affection she deserves. She will need a good walk and some room to play, but mainly a family that is looking for a companion because she is going to want to be with you as much as possible!

If you would like to make this girl part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
