My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It is hard to believe that Kasey is the same little dog that was taken into care from a cruelty case where he had such a bad flea infestation that he had lost almost all of his hair. Well he is 100% cleared now and just had his first grooming. He is now a very handsome boy. Kasey is looking for a quiet home with someone that will love him and give him the attention he is so deserving of. We would like to see Kasey in an adult home where he can just relax and enjoy his life. Kasey weighs approximately 20 lbs.

Here is what Kasey's foster family had to say:

The best way to describe Kasey is a calm and gentle soul that blossoms in the presence of people. Kasey is warm and affectionate, and as an older dog, he is an easygoing pet that loves snuggling up close. Kasey is friendly to everyone, but happiest when he’s by your side. He’ll rub himself against you and bask in your return of affection. However, being the gentled-nature dog that he is, he’ll never jump onto you or anybody else. Kasey has an excellent temperament and takes extra caution when accepting food from your hand. He’s very healthy with a young spring in his step when he goes out for walks. He has excellent bladder control and two walks a day will suffice. Because he is an older dog, he doesn't need long walks. Kasey does not shed. A friend of mine visited and is allergic to dogs but had no symptoms.

Kasey loves being around people! When guests come over, he goes to say hi (sniff) to everyone but doesn't jump or lick them, which was ideal for one of my guests who was afraid of that. I'm sure he would get along well with children too. As an older dog, he does get a little grumpy when you try to move him when he's sleeping. He's very calm around other dogs, even when those dogs are very excited to see him. He would sniff the other dogs and continue on his walk. No need to worry that he would be aggressive with other pets. He is however, more of a people-dog than a dog-dog.

Kasey is curious when sounds suddenly occur but he has no great fears. He's very good when he's home alone. He mainly just sleeps throughout the day (I used ustream.tv to check in on him when I am in the office). Kasey's favourite thing to do is to snuggle right up against you and fall asleep. He feels warm and safe when he’s in the company of people. When he is really happy, he will bury his face into you and turn onto his back, kicking with joy. The sight will warm your heart. His second favourite thing is going out for walks. Don’t be fooled by his age! He has an energetic spring in his step that makes everyone he comes across smile at his cheeriness. Outdoors, he is very inquisitive but obedient – it’s a lot of fun taking him out! Kasey never barks when someone is home with him. He might bark once if he’s very anxious because he knows he’s about to get food or treats.
Kasey is very low maintenance because he is so well behaved. He is very calm and knows the difference between his food and human food. He doesn't beg for human food or make you feel guilty for not sharing any. A rare, but great quality in dogs! Try not to feed him human food during your meals so he won’t get into a habit of asking for our food. Kasey doesn’t know some of the basic commands such as “sit” or “down” but he will almost always come to you when you ask, even if he knows he’s in a little bit of trouble. He is extremely obedient. He now fully understand "treats" and "outside". If he shows excitement when you ask if he wants to go outside, it means he’s due for a walk. Kasey is fully house trained. He will let you know when he needs to go outside.

Kasey is not crate trained and will bark if he is locked in it. I give him the living room space and close the bedroom, den, and bathroom doors before leaving for work and he’s very happy with that. Kasey is leash trained and has had no issues walking in downtown Toronto with tons of other people, dogs, cars, etc. He follows the owner very well and always receives smiles from other pedestrians. Kasey is easy to take into the car. He sleeps through the whole ride and he doesn't bark at others nearby. Even when the car is parked and strangers are exiting/entering their cars, he remains calm and goes back to sleep.

The perfect older dog, Kasey is easy and an absolute pleasure to take care of. He is calm and gentle, and all he wants is some company. Because he is a mature dog, he’s fully house trained and very low maintenance. There is little need to discipline Kasey, as a stern ‘No’ is equivalent to telling him “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed”. Kasey gets along well with everyone – he doesn’t bolt at the sight of other dogs, but instead politely says ‘hi’ with a gentle sniff, if allowed. He has made quick friends with many people that we encountered on walks and in the building lobby. Don’t be fooled by his age! Kasey has an endearing bounce in his step and can keep up with a light jog every now and then. He is a lot of fun to walk with – he is so curious about the world and just loves exploring it. Kasey also adapts to a routine very quickly.

Kasey is a sweet and gentle dog that would make a perfect addition to any home. He gets along wonderfully with people of all ages and will quickly worm his way into your heart. His calm and gentle nature suits children particularly well. Kasey would be ideal for an individual, couple, or family looking for a low maintenance dog with lots of love to give. An older individual or couple with a quiet lifestyle would also be a great fit. He can live comfortably in any apartment/condo or house. He doesn’t require very long walks as his energy level isn’t as high, so letting him out into a backyard will most likely suffice.

If you think Kasey would fit well into your situation, please submit an application for consideration.
