My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

King is a big cuddly boy who loves attention, affection and treats! His foster family loving call him "meatball" because he is very motivated with treats. He is an intelligent dog that listens well and knows his basic commands. He was obviously a family pet prior to his imprisonment and is used to the finer things in life, like table scraps. He is a big boned boy that could stand to lose a few pounds but overall is healthy and happy. King is approximately 2 1/2 years old and currently weighs 41 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

King is definitely a boy who suits his name. As his foster Mom, I really couldn't picture him as anything other than a King. He's a boy who knows what he wants and loves to be treated like royalty. The first place he headed for when he arrived at our home was the fridge. He is a meatball and loves table scraps. If you offer him a treat that he doesn't like he will just drop it on the floor and wait for the better goods - you can't help but laugh. He is a very self-confident dog that likes to be around people but can go about his business without being overly demanding of your attention. He does love attention when you give it to him and is very content cuddling on the couch or going for a nice walk.

King is a big boy and has a naturally thicker frame but he could still use some extra walks to get off some extra weight to become lean and even healthier. We have also come to realize that in our household with young children, a young dog and cats, King would prefer a more relaxed lifestyle. Although he does okay with the younger children, he doesn't seem to like their high energy and I don't believe he has the tolerance for them full time. He would probably do much better with adults or in a family with older children. As well, he doesn't do well and can get a bit rough with our younger dog when he can't get across to the younger dog that he wants to stop playing and be left alone. When King wants to relax, he wants to relax.

King is a very smart boy and knows his basic commands such as come, sit, drop it, off, bed, no, leave it, etc. Although when he first arrived he did a little counter surfing, he has never stolen anything and listened when we told him to get down. He is fully house trained and even on the first day after he arrived he woke me at 5:30 am to ask to go out and has never had an accident in the home. King is a fantastic boy for going in his crate. He may whine just a little at first, but then lays down and waits patiently for you to come home. He really loves getting a bit of deli meat for being a good boy to go in his crate. I do feel however that in his forever home he would not need to be crated and would be happy to just lounge around until you got home. He can stay on his own for a normal work day with no problem and a nice bone to chew on.

King is generally very quiet in the home but he does like to pretend he is the big protector when a stranger comes to the door. He is not afraid of anything and will puff up his chest to protect those he loves if he senses any kind of danger. Unless he sees an unfamiliar person outside or hears a noise he doesn't know what it is, he is very quiet. He is pretty happy most of the time and is a pretty easy keeper. He has short hair that doesn't shed much and would easily be maintained with a weekly brush.

I don't believe King was walked much in his previous home given the extra "padding" but he definitely loves going for walks. He still has a tendancy to pull a bit when walking on leash and I have found using a harness works best for more control. With some patience and a little more training I feel he will be a great walker. He ever tries to run away from you and I don't think he is in any hurry to run from a place with yummy treats and cuddles. He does very well on short trips in the car but he gets a bit impatient with longer rides. I do believe with patience he will learn to be content just to watch out the window. He is great at listening when told "no, you can't sit on my lap while I try to drive."

If you want a loyal, loving and protective meatball who loves cuddling, sometimes hogs the covers and is just generally happy and content to be with you, then King's your boy! King is small enough to do well in an apartment or townhouse with regular walks or a larger home with lots of room. Since he's the "King" and likes his "me" time, he would thrive in a home with an older couple or family with teenage kids. He also likes to have all of your attention, so a place where he can be the only dog getting love and not have cats to chase would be best. He's a wonderful boy, and I can't wait to see him find his forever family.

If you think King would fit well into your family, please submit an application for consideration.
