We all know that many people feel that questions on adoption applications can resemble the Spanish Inquisition. Then why are dogs still coming back to Animatch -- honest answers help volunteers find the best fit but Animatch can’t always guarantee that the person who adopts is being candid about their long-term ability to care for a dog. As was the case with Jagger, who was adopted as a young pup in the summer of 2014, there was no back-up plan as was indicated at time of adoption. Sadly, Jagger was returned because he was being destructive and spending too many hours on his own; no doubt he was loved but it takes more than just love and good intentions for this 15-year commitment. Our goal is to make Jagger’s next home his furever one; we do know that things happen in life that don’t always make that possible but we feel it is our responsibility to try. It is also no coincidence that a great majority of dogs that arrive in rescue are adolescents whose behaviour has become too much to cope with in the home. Since many missed out on the training they needed as a puppy, most of our young adoptees require basic obedience training and we need to be confident that the new guardian is prepared to ensure that the dog gets the essential training. Jagger requires an experienced guardian who is willing to guide and educate him through his adolescence; an active family who will include him in many of their activities would be ideal. If you feel that you are the one to help get Jagger back on the right track, please fill in the Adoption Form.
