Here is what his foster family had to say:
Benito is a quiet, loveable little guy. He is a cheerful, loyal little companion. He loves to be wherever you are and when he is really happy he will rub up against you like a cat. With strangers he is a little more reserved until he sees that you are a friend and then he is more than happy to be petted and he loves being talked to nicely. He is fine with other dogs and likes to follow my Shih Tzu everywhere. It is like he is learning how to be a family member from my dog. I am sure he would love another doggie friend in his new home as well. He also likes to watch our rabbit but never goes after him so I am sure he would be fine with cats as well. He doesn't appear to have any prey drive.
I don't think he was treated very well in his previous home as he seems very sensitive to fast movements or if you yell or raise your hands to quickly near him. He doesn't like it when someone runs up to him to quickly and he gets nervous around a lot of noisy people or children. He is fine with household noises like the vacuum. He doesn't go and hide but if he is scared at all he will become very submissive. He loves a good ear scratch and loves being talked to nicely.
Benito has fairly low energy. Although he likes his walks, he doesn't enjoy long hikes. He is great meeting people on our walks and dogs as long as they are low energy as well. He gets overwhelmed when they are too hyper. He does shed however with regular brushing and a bath every so often it is very minimal. Other than that he doesn't require much grooming. He is not big on being picked up and seems to prefer all four paws on the ground. He will let you pick him up but you need to do it gently/slowly.
He is very trustworthy in the home and doesn't get into anything he shouldn't. We don't use a crate with him as he really doesn't need it. He would be fine to be left for a normal working day. He is comfortable in the home and loves to sleep in his own bed, the couch won't do! He likes following his people around and is happy doing whatever you want to do. He does enjoy chasing the birds in the back yard and going for small walks. He is very quiet in the home.
Benito likes to watch you eat but he isn't a whiner. I wouldn't leave food out unattended however. Benito is still learning and is a good listener but I don't think he was taught any real commands. He is house trained and let's you know when he's ready to go out by going to the door. He is a slow walker and barely pulls in his harness. He doesn't try to bolt. Benito is fine in the car.
He is a very lovable sweet dog that is 100% gentle. Always wagging his tail when you talk to him. He would do well in a quieter family with a non hyper dog companion. Loving hands is all he needs.
