My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Boomer is a great boy who is smart, friendly, and very easy going and is going to make a great addition to any family. Boomer seems to be new to the home environment and needs some guidance in understanding some basic house manners, however he is very smart and is picking basic commands very quickly. He loves to be around people and gets along fantastic with children, as well as other dogs and cats in the home. Boomer is approximately 5 years young and weighs about 22lbs.

Here is what else Boomer's foster family had to say:

Boomer is a silly, sweet and endearing dog. He has his own funny quirks and a tail that never stops wagging, even in his sleep. No matter what he's doing he always seems to be putting a smile on our face. He is a healthy little guy; alert, happy and playful. He is on the skinnier side and does need to put on a little bit of weight, which shouldn't be too much of a problem because he loves meal time!

Boomer's energy level is moderate to low. He loves to play with his foster brothers Joey (cat) and Fred (dog), as well as run around with toys and go for walks. However, he definitely loves naps and down time. He really enjoys just being around others and could sleep his days away on the couch if he could. Boomer has a short, smooth coat with minimal shedding, and requires hardly any grooming. Boomer loves everyone he meets! He is a social butterfly and excited to greet anyone new who crosses his path. He has a great approach to anyone new, including children and even other dogs he meets on his walks. Boomer is such a super sweet and friendly boy and hasn't shown any aggression under any circumstances towards people, dogs or cats. When he first greets new people, he does not suffer from shyness but remains very calm and waits for you to come to him and show him the love. Boomer loves the other pets in the house and plays with them both very well. He does not act dominantly toward either the dog or the cat and loves any chance to play or snuggle up to either of them. He would definitely get along great with a fur brother or sister. He is also great meeting dogs on his walk as well, he always greets calmly and quietly. He could easily join any family with cats or dogs of any size or age.

When left alone Boomer does not show signs of separation anxiety. He remains in his crate when left alone at home and is quite content in there, curled up in his blanket or with a favourite toy. When Boomer first came to us he was a little hesitant toward new objects and loud sounds, however once he felt safe and got to explore his new surroundings his confidence sky rocketed and he has not shown any fear towards anything since. Boomer is a very easy going dog and loves just about anything he can do with you. He loves downtime when he can curl up beside you on the couch or at your feet, and loves getting lots of belly rubs. He also loves running around with his foster brothers, chasing, them and being chased, chewing on some bones or tossing around his favourite toys. he absolutely loves spending time in the sunshine, whether its sun bathing on the front porch or next to the window. He is a pretty smart pup and seems to also like learning some new tricks, in only a short time he mastered "sit," you can tell he enjoys the challenge and of course the bonus of treats. He is very quiet in the home, the car and on walks. Aside from some sleepy groans Boomer doesn't make much of a peep. Even as excited as he gets to greet you at the door, he doesn't make a sound he just offers up a very excited tail wag.

Boomer has been very well behaved in the house, he has not been destructive at all and knows the difference between the things he can chew on and the things he can't, as well as what furniture he can go on and what he can't. However, Boomer is a very food motivated dog and loves bugging for table scraps. He does like to jump and mooch for food but with some guidance he was already showing progress after his first day. Boomer did not know any basic commands when he first came to us. However, he is a very fast learner and by the end of the first night had mastered "sit". He is also learning "off" and "leave it" as it is helping improve his table manners. He learns commands quite quickly and with consistency he will pick up many others very easily. Boomer is house trained and knows where to go and what to do to alert you he needs to go outside. It is best, for Boomer, to show him where he will be going out regularly and start him on a schedule for the first little while until he has no doubt where to go or how to ask on his own. Boomer is currently crated and he does enjoy his crate. He uses it as his quiet place to nap away from the other pets. He is quiet in his crate and goes in very easily. We are using a crate at this time to keep him in a safe place while we are out of the house and to ensure that when he is out of a crate there is the opportunity for us to correct any negative behaviours and reinforce the good ones, so far it has not been more than 4-5 hours.

On walks Boomer is great. He is easy to walk with a second dog, he does not pull and knows to stay close. He is great for leisurely walks. He is generally pretty calm at the door and does not bolt out when it is opened. Although, as he likes to explore, he has gone through the door far enough to sniff a bit and turned around to come back inside. Boomer is great in the car. He easily sits back and enjoys the ride.

Boomer is such an easy and loving boy who is looking for someone who will simply show him love. He will need consistent guidance until he understands proper mannerisms, but he is highly food motivated and has proven to be easily trained. He is such a great little guy and anyone who invites him into their home and family will truly be lucky to have him. Boomer can easily fit in almost any home situation. He would be a great family dog, and would get along great with other pets. However, he could just as easily any one person who is willing to show him love and snuggle up with him at the end of the day. Boomer would also be well suited for an apartment if need be, as he is a very calm and quiet boy.
