In rescue after a while you begin to understand that strength truly has nothing to do with size, in fact strength has a lot to do with endurance and most of all, heart. And the strength of any mother is measured by her heart and especially the love she holds for her babies. This truly heartbreaking story takes place in TJ Mexico and is one of a mama pup who was thrown out by her owners to fend for herself and her puppies. Abandoned and alone in the desolate and bleak stretch of land there was no food around them, no water to hydrate and it was here that she grieved over the loss of life of one of her babies.

Left to grieve for more than enough days, the mama pup made sure to never leave her little one's side. No matter how much time had passed, as was evident in the tiny decaying corpse beside her--she would not leave his side. The sadness she experienced didn't stop her from protecting him either, she would even carry his tiny body in her mouth when moving around the area. Seeing a picture of her in complete devastation over her little one is enough to make anyone have a heavy heart.

We wanted not another moment to pass in which this loving mama pup had to keep reliving the same anguish and depression over and over again. She had one pup left from the previous litter and we were determined to save them both and bring them safely to our rescue so we could make sure they would, from this moment forward keep on living for themselves and each other.

Sage is 18 months, spayed, vaccinated, heart worm tested, fecal tested, microchipped, and has received dental. Sage is available for adoption individually or by her pup Amani.

Our adoption policy is only for Southern California.

About DogTag: You're It!

About Our Rescue Group...

The name of our Independent Rescue group is called DogTag: You're It! We are dedicated and devoted rescuers of the mistreated, relinquished, and neglected animals that wander into our lives. From the streets, to the sheltered, those abandoned, and those turned over unwanted--our mission is to prove to the innocent and defenseless creatures we rescue, that they will not only be wanted and loved from this moment forward, but that they only have bright and hopeful futures to look forward to as beloved members of the DogTag: You're It! family and ultimately their new family in a forever home.

We work hard to make sure each and every one of our rescue pups is healthy and treated medically before placing them in any foster or forever home. Each and every one of our rescues receive medical care immediately upon rescue without a moment's hesitation. Included in vetting is a spay/neuter procedure, microchip, heartworm and fecal tests, Parvo test for puppies, complete vaccinations, and dental if age 2 years and up even younger if needed. They also get treated with monthly with flea/parasite preventative.

We also rescue senior and medical dogs, we provide all medical interventions requested by our veterinarians and consult or treatment by specialists. Our goal is to not rush their adoption, but to ensure that each one of our precious pups will only be in a home as a loved and cherished member of the DogTag: You're It family to their new forever home.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Private meetings can always be scheduled upon receiving and approving the adoption application,

Our Adoption Process...

We require an adoption application to be filled out prior to arranging any home-meetings as we have to work with our fosters schedules as well as our own. Application review can take up to anywhere from 1-2 weeks depending on how busy we are. Applications MUST be submitted to us within 3 days of receiving to be considered. ONLY applicants we approve to proceed with adoption will be contacted. If you have not received a response after 2 weeks, please know your application had been reviewed and considered, but not chosen. Doggie doors are NOT permitted per our policy and we will ONLY proceed with adoption if it's removed completely.

Included in the application is a veterinarian reference check as well as work or personal reference check. We never adopt out on a first come, first serve basis because we consider this a lifelong commitment and we want to be certain that we are making the best decision for both the forever family and our rescue. No one knows our rescues better than we do and we want to be certain that we consider their individuality when choosing their home. At the time of the home screening we will observe the interaction of our rescue with each and every member of the household including the family pets.

When our rescue goes to his or her new home, he or she will be up to date with all medical, current on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed or neutered, treated with Revolution a high quality flea/parasite preventative, as well as supplied with a collar, leash, and Canine Friendly harness. We also feed all of our rescues while they have been in foster homes, grain-free and high quality nutritious food such as Pulsar, Orijen, and Wellness. It is mandated for all of our puppies to attend puppy obedience classes within two months of their adoption.

We take such special care of our pups and we want to be completely positive that we place them in a home perfect for that particular dog. We require an adoption application and a home screening to make sure our safety standards are met. The adoption donation fee ranges from $220 for adult dogs and $120 for cats. The fee includes spay/neuter, full vaccination, fecal test, heartworm test, microchip, in many cases dental cleaning, flea/parasite preventative, FIV/FELV test for our felines, collar, and harness.

The adoption donation fee will allow us to continue to help our other rescues, some of which are medical and senior dogs in permanent foster home.
