Jace's Story...
Jace is an eight week old, male, black/tan, Yorkshire Terrier mix puppy. He will be around eight to ten pounds as an adult dog.
Jace, along with his mother and three brothers were found under a shed on an abandoned property on a very cold night by animal control officers in Douglas County, Ga after neighbors reported seeing the mother dog come and go from under the shed. Jace was only four weeks old at the time, and he was brought to the Douglas County Animal Shelter in very poor condition. He was nearly frozen to death, but recovered quickly.
No one came to reclaim Jace or his family in the allowed amount of days, so a very kind staff member notified Hickory Level Hound Rescue about him. He was picked up that day and taken to a vet clinic.
After all Jace has been through, he is a relatively healthy pup. He does have a scrotal hernia that will need to be repaired when he is neutered. It shouldnt be a problem after that. Jace is very shy, and it does take him a while to warm up in new situations. He is the least outgoing of the whole litter, and he has the biggest eyes when things are scaring him. Jace really needs a patient and kind person, in a quiet home.
Jace and the rest of his family have been in foster care in a private residence since then. He is growing and doing well! He's starting to play with toys and venture farther away from his Mom lately.
Jace's ideal home would include............
*someone who is home often
*someone who either has experience with socializing and training a young pup, or who will commit to group obedience classes hosted by a positive reinforcement trainer
*someone without very young children
*someone without very large dogs
*someone who's home includes a fenced in yard, or who lives in proximity of a fenced in dog park with an area specifically for little dogs OR who can commit to several hours of leash walking daily
*someone who is prepared for destructive behavior such as excessive chewing and frequent and inappropriate urination
*someone financially able to support the medical and physical needs of a growing pup....including preventative medications for heart worms and fleas, and professional grooming
*someone who can prove that all current pets in the home are up to date on vet care including routine vaccinations, sexual alteration, and preventative medications
*someone who is NOT allergic to dogs
If you do NOT meet ALL of these requirements and are NOT willing to submit yourself and your family to the adoption process which will include providing proper documentation of the above mentioned, plus a HOME visit...then please do NOT contact us!!
If you have specific questions or would like to fill out an adoption application, please contact Misty at
Please UNDERSTAND, that HLHR does NOT operate on a first come first serve basis, but instead strives to make the best possible match for each dog. Jace will NOT be able to leave us until closer to the end of March, or first of April.
Jace's $275 adoption fee includes complete routine vet care for the first year of life.
