We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

Benji is a darling terrier mix who is losing his home due to a child’s newly acquired allergies. He is about 4 years old and has a very sweet temperament. Benji absolutely loves kids and should have some kids to play with in his new home. He is also great with cats and dogs and everyone he meets! (He can be scared by loud dominant males). Benji would probably love having another playful dog and some kids to play with. A fenced yard is a huge plus for him to go outside to do his duty and he will ring a bell to go out. He loves to run and play in the yard too. He’s not a retriever but does like to run with a soccer ball. Benji makes very cute talking noises when he wants something like food or go outside, and will paw at you too. He just loves belly rubs and car rides too. Sometimes he chases his tail and it is very amusing to watch! This is one special lovable family ready dog although he is overweight at 55 pounds—he should be closer to 45 pounds which can be accomplished with a careful diet and plenty of exercise. He would not be happy being home alone all day so either a stay at home parent or another playful dog would be highly desired. He is house trained and crate trained. Benji is with Happy Hound Rescue, a 501c3 all volunteer rescue and is in a foster home. He is neutered, had a full dental, is current on all shots, worming, and he has a HomeAgain microchip. His adoption fee is $300 sales tax. Benji will come with his vet records, crate, dog food and his other supplies.
