History: Lotto was rescued from a high-kill shelter in South Korea. Some of these shelters have so many dogs and limited resources, so the dogs only eat every 3 days. Mixed breeds have a very difficult time getting adopted in Korea. They often end up euthanized or sold to make dog bone broth to slaughterhouses. One of our rescue partners in Korea was able to save Lotto and he has been in foster care over in Korea.

Fostered in: Fullerton

Type of home: Lotto would be happy with pet siblings or as an only dog. Apartment or house with yard. Small dogs still need exercise! Lotto really enjoys carrying around a tennis ball. His Cocker Spaniel foster sister is teaching him all about fetching the ball!

Crate trained: Yes, sleeps in crate

Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Kids: Yes
Good with Cats: Unknown

Adoption fee (non-refundable): $300.

All dogs are fully vetted, tested for heartworm, microchipped, and up to date with vaccinations.

Our adoption process looks like this:

1. Adoption application review by WHDR board
2. Adoption application approval
3. Meet and greet
4. Home safety check
5. Final approval and adoption finalized

Our volunteers, donors and adopters mean the world to us! Without you, we couldn't do what we do - saving the lives of abused, neglected and abandoned dogs and providing them with a loving forever home.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lotto, a La Mirada Maltese/Shih Tzu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Maltese/Shih Tzu for sale in La Mirada, or seeking a Maltese/Shih Tzu dog from a breeder in La Mirada.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in La Mirada already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a La Mirada breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Maltese/Shih Tzu breeders who help with Maltese/Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in La Mirada paves the way for another one to be saved.
