My name is Benji I was left at the SPCA by my family; the reason they put on my paper work for abandoning me was “behavior issues”. Thankfully SPCA contacted CAA Rescue and I was helped into their foster care program… adoption for me at the SPCA would be close to nil and I would have to sit there day in and day out in my cage. Everyone thought it would be better for me in foster care where these behavioral issues could be addressed

Well I can tell you that I did have a couple of accidents in my foster home the first couple of days there but foster mama said that was fine and cleaned up my mess – I felt really bad because my family said I was not house trained but really it was because for my whole life they left me unfixed so I did what came naturally for male dogs … I marked and since they did not clean very well I kept remarking. Not really my fault and now that I am neutered and my foster mama was patient with me at the beginning I can now very happily say the I have 100% HOUSE BROKEN! Take that old family!

I am a normal dog barker so when the mailman comes I really like to bark at him but so do the resident doggies otherwise I am not overly vocal. However I do miss my foster mummy when she leaves me so I cry and for that reason I should not be adopted into an apartment, I would hate to get anyone in trouble and have to move again. I am trying really hard to be a good dog but some of these little issues will probably not get much better

I am absolutely dog friendly and cat friendly; I have adopted one of the resident kitties as my own and often cuddle up with her

I am an active boy! I love my walks and especially exploring in the back yard! I don’t think I had one before because since discovering it I like to spend time out there and am in no rush to come in

I think my family’s reason for leaving me at the SPCA is BS because all those behavior issues that they listed are totally not me! I am not sure which dog they were describing but it is not who I was… I think they left me because as I got older I was not good for breeding any more (when I first came into rescue I humped A LOT … everyone and everything but that is subsiding now that I am fixed) and my teeth needed some major work which they probably did not want to pay for! So it is easier to leave me somewhere and pass on the responsibility of my health to someone else!!! Well thankfully my teeth were cleaned and 12 teeth were extracted! 12 teeth!!! Can you just imagine how long I sat in pain and in silence trying not to be a bother to my family as my teeth were slowly rotting in my mouth building an infection day after day? A lot of good that did me living with that pain for so many years and never complain… they still dumped me like yesterday’s trash! At least some people do care out there and now I have none of those concerns. My health is awesome now and I feel better and stronger and happier each day!

I have not been tested with young children but I think my days and time for being around young children has passed…. I think I would not mind if they come to visit every now and again but I just do not think I would be happy in a home with young, active and loud children. I am more of snoozzz quietly in the afternoon kind of guy

I do have a long coat so you will have to consider that I will need regular brushing and grooming on the flip side you get to buy me pretty cloths because I do like to stay warm in my pjs or jackets

I think I am looking for a special someone who is a home body and wants to have company. I like to just follow you around and be with you; doing whatever it is you are doing. Someone who has a home so when left alone and I cry no one will get in trouble, a fenced in back yard because as the weather is getting warmer I am really spending more time out there on my own
I like car rides so really I can go on any road trips with you
Most important I want someone to walk with me because I very much enjoy that as well

My foster mummy is sooooooo funny! She s trying agility training with me … I will see how much I like doing that; I have a feeling I will be pretty good because I am so very eager to please my humans! Anxiety: yes when left alone will bark and cry … too much for apartment life
Vet History: base vaccinated, neutered, micro chipped, dental cleaning and extraction. One final visit to be scheduled prior to adoption at Animal 911 in Roxboro for health check and rabies vaccination
