My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UMDR ID#015-0319 - Sally's Rescue was Sponsored by Beth Hyatt of Burlington.

Sally is sweet young girl who has adjusted to living in a home really well but as it is still so new to her she needs someone who is patient and ready to commit the time to help her to be her best. She is a very smart girl and adores anyone that shows her attention and deserves to be given the opportunity to be loved deeply the way that she does. She'll curl up with you in bed at night and greet you in the morning with a kiss as soon as you lock eyes. She's always ready to start her day with excitement and enthusiasm. Sally is approximately 6 - 8 months old and currently weighs 17 lbs.

Here is what else Sally's foster family had to say:

Sally is a sweet puppy that loves to give kisses to just about everyone she meets. She is very affectionate, sociable and loves to cuddle especially at the end of the day when settling in for the night. She has lots of energy and enjoys several walks and lots of play time. Her cute and lovable demeanor warms your heart. She is a healthy energetic girl who can outrun you in heartbeat. She appears to be between the age of 6 and 8 months. She is very active and still very much a puppy that likes acting goofy. Sally is very curious and has lots of puppy energy. She requires frequent stimulation and walks to keep her from getting bored.

Sally is very social with everyone she meets including children. She seems to think that everyone is her best friend and tries to say hi by reaching up for a kiss if you are close enough. She does not have any aggression towards people or other animals. She is super friendly and invites people to pet her at all times. She is not afraid of people. She loves their attention. She also loves to be around other dogs and cats but will play chase and get a little carried away with herself when it comes to our cats. With a few swats and hisses she'll back down when she realizes who the boss is. She would do well in a home with another dog her size as it would help to release some of her energy and allow her to act out her puppy behaviours with the right companion.

She has only been left for 4 hours at a time so it would be best if someone were home more often initially to help house train and guide her.Sally is frightened of loud noises such as passing vehicles while we are out on ours walks but this lessens as she learns about the world and is better socialized. Sally absolutely loves to play ball. She has quickly learned to bring the ball back to you most times. In general, she just loves to be around you and will be her goofy self as much as she can. Sally will bark at times while looking out the window but generally doesn't bark a whole lot. If her ball or toy is stuck under the chair she'll bark to let you know she needs help retrieving it.

Sally is still a bit of a chewer as she has taken some of my sons toys and chewed them up but she hasn't chewed any furniture, shoes, socks, etc. Having plenty of dog chew toys around does help a lot. She will try to steal food from you even if she's finished her own meal. She seems to be a bit of a scavenger when it comes to food and will eat just about anything if you let her. She may not have previously had a whole lot of food selection to chose from so it seems that she'll take whatever she can get. She does jump and reach up for food but with constant correction she is well on her way to sitting patiently until the food comes to her. She is really a puppy and will definitely need someone that is willing to continue her training and socialization.

Sally is still learning a lot of her basic commands and is eager to please. She has quickly learned to sit and does without command especially if there are treats or food around. She is also learning to sit when getting ready to go for her walk and will sit patiently when we get back until you take her leash off and clean her up if she's a little muddy. She still needs work on her house training. I've noticed that she will go from window to window to look to get out but if you don't see her she'll have an accident in that area. She has scratched the door lightly to get out but doesn't always do this on a regular basis. Lots of praise when she does go outside is helping. She needs to learn how to signal more and, of course, you have to really pay attention to her subtle signs.

Sally has been crate trained a little and we are working on doing this more. She will whine and cry while in the crate and prefers not to be in there. Sally has improved on her walking a great deal. She is very curious and will cross back and forth often as she loves to sniff the ground and leap in the snow like a dear. She would be a great candidate for obedience classes as she is very willing to please and she catches on quickly. Sally will try to escape if there is an opportunity. She is learning the stay command but needs a lot more practice and should be kept on leash at all times. She's a smart girl but would benefit from recall training as she'll run without any sort of direction. She is a puppy after all! We haven't had Sally in the car except for her ride home to our house. At that time she was nervous.

Sally would be best placed with a family that is active and loves to be on the go and is able to take her with them. She does great with children but may jump up on younger kids and knock them over when she's excited. A family that is willing to dedicate the time and training needed to guide and stimulate her would be ideal. Some extra time spent on the initial house training is going to be required. A home with a fenced yard would be wonderful as she loves to run and play ball and needs some space to burn off her energy.

If you think Sally would be a good choice for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
