My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Watson’s smile can light up a room. He is such a nice guy; we can hardly believe that he was just walking down a street in Houston as a stray. He really was in the right place and the right time because one of our dedicated volunteers was in that exact same place and scooped him up into safety. He joined our rescue pack and now his next step will be walking down a residential street to the dog park on a leash with his new family…smiling bigger than ever.

Watson is an American Staffordshire Terrier/ German Shorthaired Pointer mix and such a charmer. His scattered spots on his body are so incredibly adorable and the matching ones on his nose just complete the package. He is estimated to be about 1.5 years old and 50 pounds, full grown.

This guy is enthusiastic about life now that he is getting attention, regular meals and feels safe. He is young, playful, and engaging. He loves to run out in the yard, seek out his favorite toys (especially the tennis balls), hop in an out of the dog pools and his most enjoyable activity is playing in the water hose. We feel like he is going to adore any water activities and would love to visit a beach one day! Second to the water, he has taken very quickly to trying to be a "lap dog" every chance he gets. We don’t mind though because he’s a super lovable boy and we want to reward him with affection.

He enjoys playing with all other dogs constantly and seems to wear them out faster than himself. He has stamina for long group play sessions and would truly love to have a furry sibling with this same puppy like energy to romp around with in the yard. He really has a happy-go-lucky personality and goes with the flow while he’s playing or just spending quality time with his people indoors. He would fit right in with children that love to be outside, running, throwing the ball and acting silly. He’s a family dog with all of the right traits to bring joy into a home along with that beautiful smile.

Watson is new to our program and has just started learning his basic commands and already conquered “sit”. He will need continued assistance to master the rest of these skills, but it is clear that he’s an intelligent pup and a fast learner. He’s treat motivated which helps a great deal in training sessions and more importantly, he is eager to learn from his new friends. We have to remember this young boy was walking down the street without any guidance, so all of these new tasks are just that…new and take time to set in. He is learning fast and leash training is his next hurdle. He needs more time to get used to walking next to his friends rather than out front and pulling. He does respond well when he’s corrected in any activity. He is already crate trained and seems to be perfectly housebroken.

He is a healthy boy; neutered, current on his vaccinations, heartworm negative and has been microchipped. Watson is available for adoption both locally (Houston, Texas) and out of state. His local adoption fee is $250. If you need a marvelous, spotted companion in your life or want more information about Watson, please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org.
