My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Harley is a 6 year old male Dane. He is a solid blue color. He is an awesome dog once you get to know him. We hope his new home has understanding Dane lovers who are willing to work with his special personality. He is very loving once he develops trust, but he is wary of new people. Once he trusts you though, he is loyal forever. We adopted him at 1.5 years old because he was too bossy in his former household. Through consistency and leadership, he has learned to get along well with everyone in the family. He especially was fond of my stepson when he was in high school. He is vocal and intelligent. He really seems to know exactly what you are thinking. He loves treats. He gets along with our cat, and tolerates other dogs if introduced on neutral territory. He has lived with a female Dane, and he currently lives with our Harlequin Dane (who sadly has lymphoma), and our Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy who is a year old. If he can tolerate the Ridgeback, then that is really saying something since the Ridgeback is very playful and dominant. He even gets along with our cat (a tortoiseshell who was a rescue two years ago). The cat actually gets along with Harley the best.

I think older children in their teens who respect dogs would do fine with Harley. Harley really likes women, but will take a little time to get used to men. However, once he trusts you, the relationship will be great. He takes a K-zyme for digestion and a thyroid pill twice a day for his blood levels. He is doing great on Science Diet (for Sensitive Stomachs). Although he is a little older, it means he is very set on being on his couch and resting. He enjoys short walks, too. He drags his paws a little when he walks, so we don’t take him very far. Running should be limited, but he still tries. He would make a great pet for a calmer home.
