My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mac is a 100 pound black male who is estimated at about 4 years of age. We do not know much of his history, before he came to rescue, but we are pretty sure it was not an easy life. When Mac entered rescue, he was underweight and has exhibited some resource guarding behaviors. Because of this, it is recommended that his fur-ever home be experienced dog people and not have young children in the home.

Despite his brief episodes of resource guarding, Mac really is a sweet boy who would like nothing better than to be your cuddle buddy. He certainly likes attention, as he will but in on attention being given to anyone else. He walks well on a leash, and with a little practice, he will be a real champ. He picks up commands quickly and will be extremely trainable.

UPDATE FROM MAC"S FOSTER MOM! After a few months at his foster home, Mac has not recently exhibited any resource guarding behavior and is now around 110 pounds! In the beginning, when the foster parents would hug, he would bark loudly. This mellowed to whining and now, there is no reaction at all. He just needs to know that his needs will be met. His forever family will want to keep this in mind going forward. He continues to play with his foster sisters and play hide and seek with the cat. He really is a sweet boy and would like nothing more than to be a part of your family.

While in rescue, Mac has attended events on behalf of the rescue and interacted with children and adults in stimulating environments like a real pro. He even walked in a parade with crowds and noise and performed quite admirably despite distractions.

Mac is neutered and house trained. While at his foster home, he has not had any accidents and has gotten along rather well with other Newfoundlands and a cat. There have been occasions of chasing the cat and growling at the other dogs, but no snapping or biting with the other animals. His new home will want to give careful consideration to how his needs are met to alleviate the opportunity for resource guarding and jealous behavior.

Our adoption fee is $300.00. A fenced yard with a minimum height of 4-feet is required for adoption.
If you plan on submitting an application and you are out of our region, once your application is approved we require that you come to our area to meet the dog and foster family. If that goes well you will be able to take your Newfie home with you.
