My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ROSANNE is 5 year old spayed female Red Fox Lab that weighs 61 pounds. She is friendly with women and is a little shy of men when she first meets them. She warms up quickly and is giving kisses in a few minutes. She is starting to play with toys. She would like a family that has another dog and that will give her some training, exercise and love. Rosanne is Darlene’s sister, they will be adopted separately. Good with other dogs and knows some commands such as sit and come. Pulls on lead at first, better with an Easy Walk Harness. Is crate trained, house training in progress.
Rosanne Story - Rosanne is one of 4 labs we are taking from a shelter 2 males and 2 females, they are owner give ups as he couldn’t afford to take care of them. They were pen dogs so didn't get a lot of attention though they will from here on out. The shelter rescue coordinator asked if we could help as they wouldn’t be adopted from the shelter as they are heartworm positive. Lab Rescue will pay for treatment as long as it is done at one of our vets. Rosanne is from a rural area and may not do well in a condo/townhouse/apartment setting or busy neighborhood. Rosanne is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (10/25): Rosanne is thriving and loving life in her foster home, so we think she would be happiest in a home with similar qualities. She is looking for a life that is relatively relaxed and low key. She likes to get silly sometimes and play with toys, but she really prefers to spend the majority of her time on the couch. She enjoys hanging out with the resident lab and LOVES their walks together. Her foster mom works full time and she is happy to stay home with free run of the house. She only asks for a midday bathroom break!

Update (10/17): Rosanne had a blast representing Lab Rescue at an event today. She took it upon herself to be the "official greeter" of the Lab Rescue booth and met every person and dog that came our way. She enjoyed showing everyone her "sit" and "paw." But adopters beware... this girl has learned to use her pretty brown eyes and cute face to manipulate treats out of unsuspecting humans!

Update (10/12): Rosanne enjoyed meeting everyone at yesterday's adoption event. She is still looking for her perfect family. Watch her at the event here: https://youtu.be/x58bv5r0CA0

Update (9/28): Rosanne's foster mom picked her up from her temporary foster today after 8 days and was welcomed with the sweetest and most heartmelting "I missed you" from Rosanne. After the love fest was over, her foster mom received this report from her temporary foster. "Rosanne did great. She and the resident dog took naps together on the couch. We had the neighbor over with their golden retriever and everyone got along well. Rosanne is truly a follower when it comes to other dogs. She watches them and then does what they do. She was so well behaved. We loved having her. She was perfect!"

Update (9/24): Rosanne is at a temporary foster home for the week. Here is what they said about her: Rosanne has been a joy to foster. She came in and made herself comfortable right away. She gets along with our dog, has great house manners and does not need to be crated when we are gone. She likes to be near people and is always smiling and happy. Rosanne plays with stuffed toys when they are given to her. She gets excited about going for a walk and is pretty good on a leash stopping to smell everything along the way. Rosanne is an easy dog to have as part of the family.

Update (9/16): Rosanne is a beautiful girl with stunning eyes. Her coat has become so shiny and soft! She loves her weekly trips to the park with the resident lab. I am confident that she would LOVE a big yard to run around. She enjoys the company of the resident lab and when she isn't in the same room as me, I can usually find them in the same room. She takes cues from him on how to behave in situations. She has recently started to show a calm confidence and sense of security in her new life. Previously, when I would come home from work, she would desperately try to get attention from me. However, now she gives me a hug and then stands calmly and waits to be pet. Then, when we go outside, she gently leans in for some love and kisses. Rosanne has brought so much happiness and love to my home. I am looking forward to the day that she finds a home of her own.

Update (8/22): Rosanne is loving life in her foster home and continues to show her personality to everyone that she meets. She is learning commands and is so proud of herself! So far, she knows “sit,” paw,” “wait” and is working on “down.” She loves to make her foster mom happy. She loves her early morning walks with the resident lab around the neighborhood. She even saw her first fox today! She has been embracing the spoiled lab lifestyle. Every morning while her foster mom is getting ready for work, Roseanne comes into the bathroom to get brushed. Her foster mom now makes sure that she finds an extra 5 minutes in the morning to make sure that Princess Rosanne gets her brushing. She has also been enjoying walks in the local park. She has fun walking the trails, exploring the murky waters under the cattails and running around the large fenced in baseball field. Life is good!

Update (8/10): Roseanne is a happy girl that loves her life in her foster home! She has great house manners and doesn’t touch anything that she shouldn’t. She has discovered her love of squeaky toys and will happily de-stuff them if she is feeling extra feisty. She has free run of the house when no one is home and can be left for 6 hours without a bathroom break. Her foster mom works full time and she loves her midday walks from her dog walker. She is a pretty good walker and walks on a loose leash most of the time. She greets her friends and family with a big hug and a kiss. She can be nervous in new situations or with new people but becomes more comfortable in a matter of minutes. She looks to other dogs for cues on how to behave in situations. Her foster brother has taught her how much fun the world can be. One of her favorites things that she has learned is that the next door neighbor always has treats so it is best to pause in front of his house to see if he will come out to say “hello.” Last week, a repairman came to the house. She greeted him appropriately and then went over to her dog bed and resumed chewing on her Kong. Rosanne has also started to put herself to bed! Every night around 8 or 9pm, she hops off of her couch and goes upstairs to settle onto her bed for the night. Rosanne has put the past behind her and is looking forward to what the future holds.

Update (8/2): Rosanne is a silly, loving and easy going girl. She is happy to spend lazy days on the couch and would be just as happy to go for long car rides to a quiet and shady park. Rosanne is great in the car. She alternates between sightseeing and sleeping. She is a petite girl so she easily shares the back seat with the resident 90 pound lab. She is very well behaved at the vet and is a dog owner's dream when she gets her nails trimmed in her foster home. She knows "sit" and is working on learning "wait." She has excellent house manners and doesn't countersurf or trash pick. Rosanne's foster mom adores her and loves seeing her smiling face each day. Rosanne will bring so much happiness to her future home!

Update (7/30):Rosanne's wish list for her new family:
-Roseanne must have another dog in the house. She doesn't mind if it is a boy or girl, but prefers that her new friend isn't TOO crazy. She's an easy going girl that likes to let loose every once in a while.
-No cats, birds, bunnies or any other small animals. Roseanne thinks that they are irresistible to chase so she shouldn't live in the same house with them. However, she will happily chase them from the yard!
-She is looking for a family that will allow her to be on the couch. It's her favorite way to relax!
-She is looking for a fenced in yard where she can let loose and run around after a long day of naps on her favorite couch. She would love it if her new friend would run with her.
-Roseanne would be happiest in a home without kids. She thinks they are too stressful and unpredictable.
-She would love a family that likes to hang out and take it easy in the house. She prefers being inside in the air conditioning over being outside in the hot sun.
-Roseanne LOVES walks so she is hoping that her new family likes them too! She does great walking with another dog and enjoys meeting other dogs while on leash. However, she will try to chase bunnies and squirrels without hesitation.
-Roseanne wants to be with her family as much as she can so she prefers to sleep in the same room as her new family. She'll settle for a dog bed if the human bed is too crowded.
-Her new family must be okay with a never ending supply of smiles and hugs from this sweet and loving girl!

Update (7/4): Here is the latest on Roseanne! Roseanne is a 5 year old red fox spayed female. She weighs 61 pounds and is good with other dogs. She is approved for kids 10 and up. Lab Rescue has treated her for heartworm and has made a full recovery. Roseanne is a friendly girl and enjoys being around people. She likes giving kisses and hugs and has started playing with toys. Roseanne would like to go to a home with another dog and a family that will provide her training, exercise and love. She likes to go on walks and enjoys relaxing on the couch with her family. She is crate trained but no longer needs to be crated. Roseanne is from the country and will do best in a single family suburban or rural home.

Update (7/2): Roseanne is doing great. Her dog walker told her foster mom yesterday that she is such a good walker and walks on a loose leash most of time. She makes walking two dogs at the same time relatively easy. When she is inside, she follows her foster mom around or is resting calmly on the couch. She will sometimes get up and play with a toy. Watch her play at https://youtu.be/uKKoVO79lzM and https://youtu.be/024UUEG_Ah4

Update (6/29): Roseanne's foster mom was out of town this weekend so she stayed with a temporary foster. Her weekend foster reports that she did great. She described her as outgoing, friendly and reported that she loved to be petted. Roseanne loved running around the large fenced yard with the resident lab. When inside, Roseanne followed the family around and supervised the baking in the kitchen. She reports that Roseanne is a doll and is a very good houseguest. When Roseanne's foster mom picked her up upon her return, Roseanne covered her with hugs. Don't miss out on this girl!

Update (6/26); Roseanne continues to look for her forever family. She is sweet, calm, well behaved and has an infectious smile. Click on https://youtu.be/fpdeini6R2U to see over 3 minutes of smiles and sweetness from Roseanne. Roseanne is doing great! She loves her mid day visits and walks from her dog walker. She has decided that she no longer wants to be in the crate when her foster mom is at work and she does fine if she isn't left for a long work day.

Update (6/17): Roseanne has been treated for her heartworms and is now officially done with her rest period. She is loving being able to go for walks again with the resident lab and is returning to her squirrel chasing ways. She is looking for a home with another dog and an open couch. She enjoys the company of other dogs and isn't the kind of dog that will overwhelm your dog. She is happy to run around the yard with the other dogs and hasn't shown any interest in retrieving or playing tug of war. She continues to be calm in the house and spends a significant amount of time hanging out on the couch. This girl is ready for her new home!

Update (6/3): Roseanne is now halfway through her heartworm treatment rest period. She is doing great and is keeping herself busy with many tasty treats. She is so excited that in just two weeks she can start to go on short walks with her foster brother again. Staying cooped up inside is just no fun for a girl that loves life as much as Roseanne! But for now, she is staying calm and keeping cool on her favorite couch.

Update (5/11): Roseanne took a trip this weekend to spend Mother's Day with her foster mom and three other labs at her extended foster family's house. She enjoyed exploring their back yard and happily joined the other dogs in protecting the yard from birds and squirrels. She wasn't interested in playing in the sprinkler or wading the doggie pool. Instead, she found the pool to be a giant water dish. She liked relaxing on the outdoor furniture on the back porch. When it was time for bed, she found her favorite dog bed and settled in for the night. At the end of the weekend, she and her foster brother loaded in to the car and went back to her foster home. She was exhausted, jumped onto the couch and slept for the rest of the night. Everyday is a new adventure for Roseanne and she is loving every minute!

Update (5/6): Roseanne continues to be a welcome houseguest. She is a happy girl and it seems that she is always smiling! She has met many new people and has greeted everyone with confidence and joy. Roseanne has been calm and well behaved in the house and is content to hang out on the couch while her foster mom works on the computer at night. Roseanne isn’t much of a kisser and would do best with a family that enjoys getting hugs instead as they are her favorite way to show her love. She will, however, happily accept kisses on her nose. She is getting along great with the resident lab and is enjoying their walks together in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, she learned the hard way that she needs to move her head when he lifts his leg! Lesson learned. Roseanne is a card carrying member of the squirrel patrol and is even more excited when she sees cats so she needs a home without cats. If you are looking for a dog that is filled with smiles and hugs then Roseanne is your girl!

Update (5/3): Roseanne's foster family is on vacation this week, so Roseanne is on her own vacation with a temporary foster family. Introductions with the resident dog were easy. After taking a walk with her new foster brother and touring the house and back yard, she settled on the couch for a nap. Last night, she slept primarily on a dog bed, however after being invited, she happily joined everyone on the foster family's bed early this morning. She found a stuffed plush toy in the toy basket this morning and had a lot of fun throwing it up and catching it. She is a nice girl and loves giving hugs. She has been well behaved so far and is currently napping in her crate with the door open. She would be an easy addition to a family looking for a sweet dog.

Update (4/23): Roseanne is doing well. She has taken to foster mom and she gets along with resident dog, Tootsie. She doesn't know how to play with her yet and will bark at Tootsie when she is playing. She hasn't shown any interest in fetching but enjoys chewing on a bone. She warms up very quickly to anyone and her shyness is short lived. She is pretty good on leash. She needs some training on commands, and we're working on those.

Update (4/13): Roseanne continues to be a sweet visitor in her foster home. She is completely comfortable with foster dad and had no reservation about taking pets from the male plumbers. When a relative stopped in for a visit, Roseanne greeted her with a wagging tail and smile. Roseanne first found the flight of stairs to be daunting but now goes up without a thought. Down can still be a little scary for her but with encouragement she does just fine. Roseanne is loving this weather, allowing her more time to explore in the yard, or relax in the warm sun. When her fosters watch TV she makes herself comfy on the dog bed. If invited, she will curl up on the couch. We continue to crate her at night or if left alone. She's had no accidents in the house and seems completely house trained.

Update (4/10): Roseanne is learning the routine of her foster home and each day becoming more comfortable with her new environment. She gets along well with her older foster sibling but they co habitate, neither particularly trying to play with the other. Roseanne enjoys stretching her legs in the yard. When she gets moving she can really go! At night Roseanne sleeps in her crate. She will sometimes go in the crate on her own during the day too. However, since realizing she is permitted on one couch, that has become her favorite spot! Roseanne is crated if her foster parents leave the house but she proved trustworthy when left alone out of the crate while foster dad took care of chores in the basement.

Update (4/1): They have come a long way since we took them in - they come to the front of runs to greet me with wagging tails. When I take either of them out they love to get petted and be told how pretty they are, but beware they will give you kisses as a reward and sometimes miss your face and your glasses may get a little wet. They haven’t shown any interest in chasing balls but do like a toy or two in their runs to play with especially a kong with peanut butter.
