When one of our volunteers was at a nail salon, her manicurist told her that her son was neglecting his dog by not giving the dog food or water. The volunteer asked if the manicurist could go to her son’s place and feed the dog. The manicurist then said that the son lives with her. While being appalled by this manicurist who just watches her son neglect “his” dog, she asked her to send us a photo, so that we could start looking for a new home for him.
The photo we received was so shocking that we immediately took custody of the dog. Thankfully, his owner who failed to be his guardian was willing to relinquish him, so we were able to take him to our vet before it would be too late
He's currently 40 lbs., and about 20 lbs. underweight, but his blood work does not suggest there is a permanent damage on his organs and he has good appetite. So, Smokey is on the mend to reclaim his normal self, and all he needs now is a new home that will protect him for the rest of his life!
If you are interested in meeting Smokey please download the
