My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

While our main focus is always on helping our local dogs in need since NJ has a huge over-population and many NJ shelters are still forced to euthanize for space, we occasionally will take in a dog from out of our area...and in this case, taking in this sweet senior named "Boy" actually saved the life of another local pound dog! When we reached out to one of our rescue friends begging them to take a big friendly energetic 9 month old pittie girl in our local shelter that we did not have an appropriate foster for, they said they had no open fosters until they placed a couple of the shy older dogs they had been having trouble finding homes for...They sounded like just our type so we offered to swap! The sweet death row pit mix we gave them has already found an amazing home, and Boy is with us where we are hoping he will have a better chance of finding a home and will fit easily into our calmer senior-loving foster homes:)

Believe it or not, the other rescuer originally rescued Boy from Taiwan! He spent his entire ~7 years living in a shelter there that had over 800 dogs! Since he was so timid and submissive he was picked on by the other dogs and became more and more fearful and had live caged separately for his safety. He is a very gentle quiet sweet boy who gets along great with other gentle dogs and loves attention once he trusts you. He is only about 30-35lbs full grown and is a Formosan Mountain dog, a breed native to Taiwan that somewhat resembles a Jindo/Shiba/Chow/Shepherd mix to us. Boy is hoping to find a calm adult home where he can finally learn to enjoy life in a real home. Please email njwoof@cs.com if you are interested.

We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage www.secondchance.petfinder.com and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions.
