Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hello! I was rescued from the freezing cold temps recently (thank goodness, because it was freezing!!!). I pulled a little magic trick on the nice people who saved me, because they didn’t have to trap me at all — they just picked me up and put me in a carrier (hence, my magical name!)! Little did they know I was a real sweet boy who yearns for affection! I also enjoy conversations — say hello to me, and I’ll mew back at you! I was found to have FIV (see “Special Notes” below), but it’s really no big deal, unless you have another cat that doesn’t like me (or I’m not too fond of). Ideally, it would be best if you didn’t have other FIV-negative cats (but other FIV-positive cats are fine). If you adopt me, know that you’ve got a best friend for life because I’m such a love bug!!! Call my foster to arrange a meeting with me, or find me at weekly adoption events in Toledo at PetSmart! Best to call ahead though, just to be sure I will be there to meet you! I am all black and 1-2 years old. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Merlin, please contact our Cat Coordinator, at 419-250-7925.
Special Notes:
Merlin is FIV positive, which is a virus he carries that causes him to have a suppressed immune system. However, cats with FIV often live long, full lives without issue. There are no medicines needed, one just needs to follow standard vet care recommendations (annual check-ups, and dental cleanings, as advised by your vet). FIV is NOT transferable to humans or dogs, but IS transferable to other cats, mainly through a bite wound (saliva needs to enter blood stream), so it is important that if you already have a cat, or will be adding more than one, that they all like each other. Cats that get along, can share food/water bowls without issue. If Merlin is your only kitty or you have other FIV+ kitties (which would be the best home environment) then of course, there is no concern. Please feel free to contact the foster if you have any questions.
