My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dexter is a 1 year old 55 lb male Black Lab Mix. Dexter was a stray from Southern Indiana so there isn't a whole lot of history on him. What we can tell you after only a week is that Dexter is a real people pleaser and loves being around you. We began fostering him on May 3rd and as you can see that Dexter is quite handsome. Just look at those pictures of him playing with a toy or posing for the camera.

Dexter's first bunch of days and nights were about as good as could be expected. He is quickly learning the routine where first thing in the morning we get up and let the dogs outside. After that we come inside and eat. We are working on manners with Dexter and have him sit before we feed him. He mastered that on day one and patiently waits for you to put his food bowl down. We have another dog, a German Shepherd mix, and Dexter has had no issues either eating, playing or just being around him.
Dexter loves playing with toys, whether it's a rope, Kong toy, nylabone or anything else. Dexter also really enjoys playing fetch in the yard. We've been on several walks and Dexter is excellent on the lease. He doesn't pull at all and walks very close to you.

Dexter is gentle when it comes to taking treats out of your hand and quickly sits to earn his treat or bone. He will also give you paw or shake when you have a treat for him. Those appear to be the only commands that Dexter knows. Dexter slept in his crate the first couple of nights but now sleeps in our room on the floor. He lays down when you are ready for bed and is quiet all night long. He has really been really great at night. During the day we leave him in his crate. Dexter appears to be completely potty trained as well and hasn't had an accident in the house since we've been fostering him, but as with all new dogs we keep an eye on him and make sure he learns to go outside.

Basically all Dexter wants is to be loved, played with and pet. Being that he's only 1 year old he has a medium to high level of energy at times so an active family that is willing to use up some of his energy would be beneficial for Dexter. I think he would make a great running partner and do great with a family that just walks around the neighborhood. He really enjoys giving kisses as well if you'll let him. I can't imagine why anyone would have given this guy up but I do know that he deserves a forever home and would make a great addition to your family.
