My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Where should we begin? Let’s just say we “intercepted” a terrified dog being dragged into animal control. We hurriedly made calls and were lucky to find a friend that agreed to foster her. That’s the abridged version of the drama that went on the day we met her.

This lovely little angel is now known as Emma. We’re pretty sure she’s a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, a petite one weighing in at only 33 lbs and a year old. According to the person who gave her up, she had been mostly tied up outside. But within only a week she has made truly amazing progress in learning the rules in her foster home. She’s had 1 session with the behaviorist who has taught Emma’s foster mom how to communicate with her so that she understands what is being asked of her. And the difference between the first few days and a week later is huge! Emma’s foster mom can’t believe how smart she is and how quick she is picking things up.

She now gets that there’s a schedule to daily life and has made peace with the crate. Emma has learned to sit and now walks wonderfully on leash. She also gets along fine with the other dogs she has encountered and has shown no alpha tendencies with humans or dogs.

Here’s what her foster mom says: “She just wants you to tell her what you want and to show her how to do it - she wants so much to please you.” Emma is learning impulse control (again, a huge difference between day 1 and day 7) and is having many less accidents in the house in that time span. She is a calm and gentle dog that hasn’t barked once since she’s come into our care. She loves to cuddle and is happy to lie next to you with her head on your leg. We don’t think there is a mean bone in that athletic little body of hers, so for that reason we think she'd be just fine with children. By the time you read this, she will likely have made more progress toward becoming a wonderful pet.

Emma’s adoption fee of $300 includes: vet exam, heartworm test (neg.), distemper combo vaccination, bordetella and rabies vaccinations, flea control and heartworm prevention, microchip and spay.
